The Great Fantasy Struggle

[h1]Introduction[/h1] «The Great Fantasy Struggle» is a nice looking yet quite simple grand strategy game, where your main goal is management of resources and people. Players are given the choice to play as forces of light or darkness and are supposed to spread their influence on the world map through indirect ways, during war or peace times. [h1]Gameplay[/h1] Perhaps, the first part worth mentioning from the very beginning is the fact that game description on the store page sounds better than actual game itself. It doesn’t necessary mean that game is bad, though, but some people might get upset as they expected quite different game. At the very start of the game, players face global map separated on independent regions, and a news tab, featuring current events where they can view what’s going on in said regions. Sometimes war occurs and common people pray to light and dark gods, asking for reinforcements and this is where player can interfere: you can send some demons, or paladins to protect a territory, or you can use more subtle approach and avoid wars, while sending missioners, who would spread propaganda and make common folks want to join your side instead of the enemy’s. …

The description of this game is misguiding, but this does not necessarily mean that the game is bad. It is not a deep or complex strategy, it requires only high attention to thoroughly and constantly check the state of provinces. The main problem is time restriction. I think, it requires a little bit of thought how to distribute the funds to achieve goal of the campaign. It may be interesting to people who like to find approaches to achieve a certain goal, but if you look for a turn-based game, operations on strategic level or micromanagement, this may not be the right choice. I would recomment to buy it, especially with discount, to play 1-2 hours and refund if this is not what you expected. Personally, I will keep the game and continue playing, at least because it is not standard. P.S. It is almost certain that you need to read the manual before playing, because there is little or no information in in-game interface of what you are doing. It does not take much time, though.

I wouldn't neither recommend or not recommend this game. The game is very specific. You can see game trailer and everything is in the trailer. You need to add your missioners or warriors to take over other provinces. They fight by them selves. All you need is just to add them in the right time. Sometimes you can build structures in your home city. It provides you with global bonus. Statistic window helps you to see global data but it takes time to understand how to use it. Use space bar for pause. Actually don't even think to play it before you read manual. Read it first, play the game and read manual again. The game is not intuitive. You need to struggle to understand how to play the game but once you get it you are good ( as you learn how to play the classic chess ). The game is very simple. There is nothing really special to say WOW about it. At the same time the game play and general ambience is very enjoyable. I love music and graphic. It's different and not expensive.

Not much strategy involved. Your "states" are all under attack, losing units and morale constantly. Normal. But you run out of actions, gold, and units and the computer side never seems to have that problem. It could be my lack of play time but I would not recommend this game. In response to the Developer - I did read the manual. Sorry just wasn't for me.
