Bounty Train

I wanted to like this game and it has a lot going for it, but in the end this is a narrow thumbs down. Reasons: - the autosave and save/load mechanics in this game are actively hostile. If you misjudge a journey and it takes a few hours longer and a mission fails - it will not allow you to load during the trip when you see that's going to happen, it will immediately autosave when you enter the target city, after applying all penalties, and it will override your previous autosave. - the scaling is off. If you don't get a good start, enemies scale to a level where you'll just get raped every attack and you can do nothing about it. - the death spiral games of this genre suffer from is real. You lose, you fail a mission, your reputation tanks, your money drops, resulting in fewer and worse missions, higher costs, etc. hard to recover from - while the music is nice, it is also repetitive and after a few hours it becomes really annoying. That it changes between map and stations while also restarting from the beginning when it does so makes it annoying to a point that I didn't think game music could be. - there's no way to play a campaign without going through the tedious tutorial…

I gave this game a good 9 hour try a long time ago and I don't remember much about it, except that it was brutally hard to make any progress. I like challenging games, but this one was unforgivingly brutal. The learning curve was more like a Civilzation game or Endless Space: just way too involving for a story-driven RPG.

Just bought it on sale for a buck. It's definitely worth that. Probably even $5-10.

A Great Game to Relax With Bounty Train is a simple, easy-to-get-into game that I really enjoy coming back to. I love jumping into this one when I'm tired and don't feel like dealing with overly complicated or stressful gameplay. It's the kind of game I throw on when I just want to chill out, relax and have some fun without having to think too hard. It's simple, but that doesn't mean there's no challenge. There are still moments where things can get a little tricky, which keeps it interesting without making it stressful. If you're looking for something easygoing that you can pick up and play without a huge learning curve, Bounty Train is definitely worth picking up.
