The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles

[h1]It's sad to have to give this a negative review[/h1] I really want to support indie developers, and this game is a good concept. But I can't recommend it as there's just too many issues with the game. Keep in mind that I'm writing this after the game crashed when I was on level 40 out of 50 of the dungeon and lost my progress for that level. Yes, just 50 rather small dungeon levels is all the content you get. "Evershifting labyrinth"? Sure, each level can have a random layout, but that's misleading. Each level has a pre-set theme and gimmick. This isn't something like the original Rogue game where it has almost unlimited replay value. Nope, instead you get 50 levels that highlight different, quirky, novelty mechanics and theme. Sometimes that theme is repeated, and you can only progress down to the next level each time. So the game is very linear. And that would be ok if there was a lot of interesting content. Instead we get gimmicks, frustrating mechanics, and a combat system that belongs in a really bad late 80s or 90s console cartridge game. i feel people are super harsh on this game in my opinion i am having a blast on this game the pixel art is very pretty the music are bangers the gameplay feel very nostalgic and old school the humor is pretty in my style love it plan to do two playtoughs one with the hero and the heroine they remind me link and zelda but more memeable xDDD the combat is pretty cool in my opinion the cool thor looking dude is very awesome i never skip his tutorials cause he seem very cool to hang out with anyway thats my review

It's... Ok. But in a world which continues to inflict the ongoing terrors of end-stage capitalism and it's trappings upon us, is 'Ok' really 'Good enough' to be an appropriate sink for your precious time? Well, no, clearly it's not, - otherwise it would be. In this game you progress down a series of levels that grow even more dangerous and tedious than the ones that came before, with side elements of crafting, resource gathering and inventory management, combat, stealth, level progression, etc. "But these side-elements are fun!" I hear you cry to which I would reply - "yes, normally, but not so much here." Crafting doesn't really add a lot to the game, really. You find occasional recipes for a few items you create as you progress, but the items really don't change much to how you approach the game or combat. Inventory and resource management seems tedious and boring because you really don't care too much about what you're crafting because it really doesn't make a lot of difference except for health or mana potions. Bottom line: Pick it up if you want an unconventional dungeon crawler that doesn't take itself too seriously, but be aware of some rough edges. I originally bought this game when it temporarily made its name "♥♥♥♥♥♥ Dungeon," at least in Japanese. The game has some interesting ideas but the execution doesn't always land and I think the devs would have benefitted from a critical voice helping them dial things back. It can be too cutesy or too unserious for its own good. I get that it's the game's schtick, but it does get tiring after a while. Know that it's a not traditional dungeon crawler at all. Each level has its own theme or design concept. This makes things less repetitive but it wasn't what I was expecting and some of the ideas need to be condensed. The game is supposed to be 50 levels but I was still encountering tutorials until around 15. I'm on 23 and its just now introducing the idea of creatures calling for nearby reinforcements, which is strange since I've encountered that before, and the concept of closing and locking a room to prevent patrolling attacks, which has never been an option before now.
