About A Hand With Many Fingers

A Hand With Many Fingers is a first-person investigative thriller. While searching a dusty CIA archive you uncover a real Cold War conspiracy. Every document you find has new leads to research. But the archive might not be as empty as you think…

  • Slowly unravel a thrilling historical conspiracy
  • Discover new clues through careful archival research
  • Assemble your theories using corkboard and twine
  • Experience a story of creeping paranoia

How does it work?

The archive is sorted by name, date, and location. Finding new clues requires all three pieces of info (e.g. Frank Nugan, 1980, Australia). Every detail you need to know is hidden in the archive. But you’ll only find them if you know who was involved, when it happened, and where it took place. Average playtime for the game is around 1-2 hours.

WARNING: This game may induce nausea, especially if you have a history of motion sickness. Adjusting the Field of View in the settings menu might help. But if you're experiencing ongoing nausea, please stop the game immediately.

The game is about 90 minutes long, and every moment spent thinking or attempting deduction is time wasted. The gameplay loop is looking up an item in the card index, grabbing the item referrenced by the card index, and then finding the next date and location to look up in the card index, there is effectively no deduction required at all. The real historical setting is interesting enough, and the game seems mostly intended to direct people to look into the real events. Read the wikipedia page on the Nugan Hand Bank, and you'll have the basic experience of playing this for free.

In two minds about this one: I'd learnt about this game through a youtube video on the historical events so couldn't go in blind as with a fictional mystery; however it does a good job of building up the unease as you find more and more evidence. Searching through physical card catalogues caused a different mental space to other games in the genre where all is digital or on your desk etc, and I got quite concerned coming back up the stairs that something would have happened in my absence. As other people have said, however, at the point where you've found a decent chunk of info & an 'escalating incident' occurs, the game just ends. Bit of a letdown to an otherwise nice little historical mystery.

A little on the short side, but I enjoyed it. I wish the ending had been more climactic - the intro messaged mentioned something about our thesis, so I wish we'd been able to fill in the blanks for a 'thesis' and publish our findings (and to make sure we're on the right track. I think I know what was going on, but some sort of confirmation would've been nice). Decent game, price is alright but could be a buck or two cheaper. 7/10 - if you enjoyed the Roottrees are Dead or the Painscreek Killings, I think you'll enjoy this.

Neat game that captures the act of researching better than most. And it's a little spooky, just a little bit of spice thrown in there.

If you're left wondering if the game just abruptly ended or if in fact it did end? then its not a very good or a remotely satisfying ending. I don't mind the non-hand holding approach but this game takes it way too far to the point of it just being bad. I had to google had i completed the game which then led me to many other posts asking the same thing.

Absolute horrible input lag, even with low settings, no POV almost and low resolution. Utterly disappointing to have a game sold in these conditions. I don't care if it is only 4$. Do not recommend under any circumstances.
