About A Princess' Tale

PRESENTATION

Life's good when you're the Princess; no responsibilities, nobody telling you what to do or where to go, just running around, having fun and flitting your life away.
So what happens when the fate of the world falls into the hands of the most irresponsible bubblehead to ever trip over royal birth?

An ancient evil threatens to walk the land again, and only someone of royal blood can stop it from waking up. But the only royal available is a girl affectionately nicknamed Princess Ooh-Look-a-Kitty, for...fairly obvious reasons. Teamed with a flustered bodyguard, a dismissive soldier of fortune, and a lovestruck nomad, Princess Calliope has to navigate a world she barely understands to save the world.
And if she's not careful, she might just grow up a little.

RPG Maker strikes again! A Princess' Tale is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. This time Andorlea/Warfare/SimProse/whatever other shell account this guy uses to try hide his identity has once more stamped out a painfully generic copy + paste RPG Maker asset flip. Another consistent pattern from this "developer" is to write little fan-fics about one of his anime waifus, I wouldn't be surprised if the plot from this came from a body pillow. It…
A Review of 'A Princess' Tale': Or, The Paradox of Unspooling Yarn in a Labyrinth of Self-Referential Mirth
(Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Cat) To engage with *A Princess' Tale* is to siphon the nectar of absurdity through a straw woven from the sinews of its own fourth-wall carcass, a recursive ouroboros of 16-bit pixels that both mocks and venerates the crumbling edifice of "heroic destiny." Here, the archetypal *Chosen One* is not a brooding cipher draped in the gravitas of existential torment, but a glittering mote of chaos—Princess Calliope—whose attention span rivals the half-life of a mayfly’s daydream. She is less a protagonist than a quantum fluctuation in the fabric of narrative inevitability, a tumbleweed of id propelled through a world that insists, against all evidence, on taking itself seriously. The game’s premise is a hall of mirrors disguised as a hero’s journey: an ancient evil stirs, as ancient evils are wont to do, in a land where royalty is less a bloodline than a cosmic prank. Calliope, the "Princess Ooh-Look-a-Kitty," exists in a state of perpetual distraction, a sentient glitter bomb in a crown, whose royal duty is ecl…

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of y…
