Key Features
- Deep combat system that takes cues and mechanics from the fighting game genre. All playable characters have an expansive set of basic and special attacks unique to each of them, along with a host of universal mobility options and advanced tecnhiques. Practice your moves and develop new combos in the Training room, where you can select any character you've unlocked in game, including the enemies.
- Procedurally generated levels ensure no delve into the Abyss is the same. The rooms of the Abyss with their various twists and traps are randomized on every entry. Enemy spawns, equipment and items to be found, special characters to encounter, and more are different each and every time you play.
- Unlock up to three hero characters to level up, earn skills, and collect equipment, then customize it all to best suit your play style. Leveling up earns skills points to upgrade each hero's unique skills a variety of ways, while various weapons and accessories can be equipped to grant them new abilities ranging from freezing opponents to cursing them.
- Play as any character you encounter in the game—even the bosses. Unleash your hero's ultra attack to steal enemies' souls, allowing you take their form. Discover brand new move sets and character styles as you capture over 30 enemies, each as complex and advanced as the three heroes.
- Work as a community to defeat the final boss together. When the collective community of Abyss Odyssey players defeats the final boss enough times, his mask breaks to reveal a new identity. Each time this is achieved, new content will be unlocked in game, including new enemies and other dynamics.
- Beautiful visuals inspired by Art Nouveau, showcasing a story rich in Chilean culture. The flowing lines and beautiful organic styling of Art Nouveau can be seen from the game's UI to its character design. Set in late 19th-century Santiago, those characters and the game's story also draw heavy inspiration from Chilean folklore and mythology.
- Play the campaign solo or with a friend in online or local cooperative multiplayer. A second player can drop in or drop out at any time to join you in your journey down the Abyss.
- Bonus versus mode allows up to 4 players to test their skills against each other. Fight it out in special arenas developed for free-for-all or team-based competitive multiplayer. Use any character you've unlocked in game, hero or enemy, for dozens of characters to choose from.

Great idea, Abysmal execution. Roguelike with Smash Bros. style gameplay, but really stiff and clunky. Button prompts don't change with your control configuration. Changing "Interact" to B but the game still tells you to press RS. The UI is also wrong. There's a Dpad shaped spot in the bottom left showing your consumables: Health potions on top, Mana potions on the left, Elixirs on the right, and your monster transformation at the bottom. Press dpad up and you use a health potion. Cool. Press dpad left, which should be mana potions, and you turn into a monster. What? Transforming is set to Dpad Down by default, but you actually press left. The game is 12 years old and still has issues. You have way better options than this, unless you can get it for free. P.S.- Forgot to mention that tabbing out crashed my whole computer and needed to hard reboot. Don't tab out of the game.11 found this helpful
A cool and interesting idea executed quite well. I really love the look and feel of the game, with all the different character designs being a personal highlight. The story and world is very interesting and definitely makes up for some of the more lacking areas. Combat is pretty janky and tricky to master, but after a while it does start to get easier. Definitely more fun with friends, but still a pretty good time playing solo. If it looks like something you might like, why not give it a shot.2 found this helpful

Abyss Odyssey is a beat'em'up, dungeon-faller roguelike. Played a bunch and beat it twice before putting it down in 4.4 hours using a game controller. Difficulty is... Fun! :D I don't get half the reviews; this game is awesome! Story - Deep, mysterious story that's Greek mythology with a Witcher edge to it. I really enjoyed collecting the journal pages. After doing the mage's playthrough I didn't get any further lore on his part, which made me sad. Art - The main gameplay graphics aged like a weird wine, but for a 2014 game that can be interpreted however you want. The character art is pretty, and at times badass. Gameplay - Clunky describes it. It reminds me of an oldschool beat'em'up arcade game. I was still able to make it work just fine. Difficulty - Abyss Odyssey doesn't care about your feelings. You deep delve a doomed mine shaft in stages and each stage is either easy, moderate, or hard without any choice on your part. Some are unexpected boss levels, and some you aren't even going to fight as yourself. The areas also switch up every time you return to the surface. Multi-player - There's not only an online multi-player feature, but a 'Player 2' option…
In a sea of sidescrolling "Lite RPGs"/"Rogue Lites"/Beat'Em'Ups, there's still nothing else quite like Abyss Odyssey (for better and worse). The game has always resonated with me despite it's numerous flaws. The biggest issue is the obnoxious screen tearing (even with V-Sync). The combat is clunky though fairly "readable", artistically and aurally the game shines (voice acting aside). Abyss Odyssey has a unique atmosphere and IMO a compelling central loop. Recommended on a heavy sale.
Bought this game so long ago and lowkey mad I waited, this is a gem for anyone who like platform fighters. Can easily waste time playing this to spend time
