Well.. it sure is an improvement from the first title, Alwa's Awakening. There are more secrets, bigger dungeons, more fun puzzles and combat.. but.. one thing really screws this game over. And that's the upgraded bubble. I went through the game without upgrading the bubble. I first got lightning and then block upgrades. So in the endgame I couldn't do some of the puzzles to get the rest of the orbs without the fully upgraded bubble. So the game at least could give you the upgraded bubble instead of keeping it in the shop. It was not fun. Or give the upgraded bubble earlier in the tree. So I would need to start the game over just for getting rest of the 11 orbs I was missing. Also don't put opening the warp points counting as secrets.. I was so confused what I was missing during the secret hunting. But I can still recommend this game on sale. It is fun, but don't forget to upgrade the bubble and block first to solve the puzzles.. sighh.
Solid metroidvania
Very fun little Metroidvania gem that's not too easy nor too difficult. Nice music and beautiful pixelart make for a really enjoyable time. The magic system with different spells was a very neat idea and gave opportunities to creatively solve puzzles, reach far off ledges (try spawning a block just before you reach they height of your jump) and combat. I had a few minor glitches (frozen sprites, glitching down ladders or climbing on the spot that were fixed by simply jumping or dropping off) and some wonky hitboxes but nothing too drastic.
I actually really like this. Playing this on handheld ROG Ally. It's a puzzle platformer, which balances between platforming, fighting and puzzles. Cute, colorful graphics and chiptune soundtrack. I like it that you can explore it quite freely. In metroidvania style, you get spells such as blocks and bubbles that let you traverse to new places. They're a bit more creative than basic double jump, air dash, etc. One of my favorite metroidvanias.
This was the first game I played through on my Steam Deck. I didn't realize it was a sequel, so I had to buy the first game and then play this one over again. Loved it even more.
