Antecrypt, developed and published by PUNKCAKE Délicieux, is a compact arena shooter that deliberately disrupts one of the genre’s most fundamental expectations: control over aiming. Instead of letting you freely direct your shots, the game separates movement and targeting into two independent systems, forcing you to adapt to an erratic reticle that dictates where you can fire. This single design decision reshapes the entire experience, transforming what might have been a conventional shooter into something far more experimental and mentally engaging. At the center of the gameplay is this constantly moving targeting reticle, which drifts and bounces around the arena on its own. Your role is not to aim in the traditional sense, but to position your character so that enemies fall into alignment with the reticle at the right moment. This creates a constant tension between intention and execution. You may know exactly which enemy you want to eliminate, but actually lining up the shot requires patience, timing, and spatial awareness. Combat becomes less about reflexive accuracy and more about anticipating movement—both yours and the reticle’s—turning every encounter into a small puzzle…

as usual, another punkcake gem to fall in love with. these games keep me up far past my bedtime, and my partner helps me with the smarter ones like hexle and rock of ages

I got this game thanks to "Grève bundle GG25" on itchio and DAMN it's really good ! I'm not used to top down shooter, I only played Enter the gungeon, but Antecrypt is another level. Straight forward, more dynamic, challenging without being overwhelming ... I loved the art as well, it creates a really immersive ambience. It really was a great discovery for me !

Completely rewired my brain with regards to dual stick shooters. Genius game design here.

At time of review this is all of $6 and I'm gonna say this is a very nice experience. Not your typical twin-stick, since you're not in control of the other stick. I like it. It takes skill to maneuver and more to hit enemies. One life, unlimited shots provided you keep your energy up. The little one-and-done modifiers are really interesting too. There's well enough variety of interesting enemies and combinations. I'm only 20 minutes in and, yeah, I'm having fun. Check it out!
