Armed to the Gears

Armed to the Gears is practically a definitional example of a "Not Quite Minimally Viable Product" to use as an example in a marketing or product development course. It would be a fine final project for a game developer graduating from Full Sail university, or as an Itch.io release to show people that you're working on your game dev skills, but you wouldn't be charging anyone any amount of money for that. As that is the case, you should also pay no amount of money for this, which is why it is not being recommended. To elaborate at least a little bit: Basically, the core concept here is a Robotron style directional shooter while you are also doing a tower defense. Which, while not a totally novel concept, isn't done too often, and so has merit as a game. However, the actual fundamentally understood rules on how the player does this (what are the gating resources on building towers et cetera) are poorly conveyed, the systems on upgrading your mech to be better at the shooter element are extremely limited, your mech is extremely slow so you're not really dodging enemy fire well, which doesn't matter because the enemy AI is barely functional and not terribly aggressive so just don't…

A great game that can easily hook you into hours of non-stop action and logic solving when it comes to capturing and keeping your bases from the enemy. I highly recommend this game if you love tower defense games or mech combat games.

Bad to Good, TLDR at the bottom. Bad: Almost no customization; only three hand weapons, and two shoulder launchers. There is some armor customization in the main menu. Campaign missions can get tedious; when an enemy capture a control point they can summon a low tier unit that can also capture other control points. This can lead to a chain reaction where you need to recapture half the map. AI is dumb; enemy units without an active target will always attack the closest thing to them unless the objective is closer. They cannot build or rebuild base structures meaning once you blow them up they're gone for good. Almost no replayablity; while it has a decent campaign and side missions, they are variation of similar ideas with almost no distinction besides the map itself. Subjective: Three Difficulties Minimal obvious story that does exist in menus and npcs. Mobility; while you have a dash, it is limited due to it being a resource replenished at specific buildings. Your base speed can be increased in exchange for armor in the customization menu.
