About ASCIILL

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2722640/CoinOp_Vice/

Special Agent ASCIILL goes to an alien temple full of traps. Powerful electromagnetic emission blocks the video signal, so all information has to be transmitted as alphanumeric characters.

In these difficult conditions Agent ASCIILL will have to fulfill B.O.S.S.’ orders: plunder the treasures, destroy alien beasts and disable the security system.

As you progress through the levels, you start realizing that B.O.S.S. is not what he seems to be and Agent ASCIILL and Earth are just pawns in the game of huge powers of the Universe. But any pawn can eventually become a queen.

Mechanics of the movement. Pay attention to numbers when choosing your route. A figure in the cell indicates the number of traps around it. The position of the traps and treasures is randomly generated each time.

Features
  • Nonlinear levels
  • Procedural generation of traps and treasures
  • Alien creatures that feel quite at home on Earth
  • TNT and grenades for the abovementioned creatures
  • Underwater brawls and rumbles in waterfalls
  • Razor-sharp plot twists

Controls. There are three ways to control the game:

Keyboard. Arrows — move. Spacebar — shoot/throw. Enter — select. Esc — open menu.

Gamepad. D-pad — move. A — shoot/throw. B — select. X — menu. You can also move using joysticks and use the right bumper to shoot/throw.

Mouse. Move the mouse pointer to select the direction. Left-click to move. Right-click to shoot/throw.

Tips and Tricks

Hearts and lives. Extra lives save you when you fall into a trap. The trap is permanently disabled after that and you can safely step on that cell.
At the start of each level you get one life. On some levels, you can find hearts that give you extra lives.
Extra lives don’t save you from bugs, laser and drowning. If you die of any of these reasons, you’ll have to start the level over again no matter how many lives you have.

Light mode. Use the menu to switch to the light mode during the game.

Reaching the treasures and narrow passages. The traps and treasures generation algorithm ensures that you can always safely reach the treasures and narrow passages. There is always a way.

This game made me like minesweeper.

Ehhhh. The aesthetics are fantastic but I don't know if there's enough here to make it much more interesting than Minesweeper. For the price (currently $3.14) yeah I'd say check it out but I don't know if it has enough to keep me playing.

The game is fine, but very easy and short. As soon as you enter challenge mode, you get all these impossible patterns to solve in most dailies (tuesday, friday and saturday at least). Some requires you to guess which isn't fine, and others you can not finish because you don't have enough space to clear the bugs. The level generation is not polished enough, it's a shame. Also azerty is not supported, navigating inside menus is a chore and you often start a game mode without wanting to, and no way to cancel or go back, and the fastest way is just to alt+F4 and restart the game, which is wow..

If you enjoy the mechanical logic of Minesweeper, Asciill is a highly competent refinement of the genre. It strips away the clutter to focus on pure deductive reasoning and spatial awareness. The game utilizes classic "neighbor-count" mechanics. If you have a background in Minesweeper or Hexcells, the learning curve is nonexistent, but the level design introduces clever complexity early on. The interface is exceptionally clean. I absolutely love the ASCII-inspired aesthetic. Easy to recommend, if you have a Steam Deck and you like Minesweeper it is a must.

Original approach to Minesweeping ! Be in the grid, move yourself with the directional keys and avoid the bombs, enemies and traps lurking into the labyrinths. Fun yet short story mode and an infinity of daily challenges everyday!
