About Augma II - Arc I

SYNOPSIS:

There was once a world devoid of any color, drowned out by the sound of howling winds and the sight of an ashen metropolis, now rotting within a God's terrible dream. While attempting to speak to a figure bathed in the color Gold, a colorless figure ultimately lost their head in such a futile attempt.

As the relentless passage of time sways the voices of the distant past, Shira Yamano finds himself in that ashen metropolis. Kirron, an endless valley of skyscrapers that pierce the sky, is home to where that once colorless figure would encounter various people that would bring the color back to his vision, and help him overcome his dangerous apathetic feelings.

However in the process of doing so, he accidentally involves himself within a string of events that raises more questions than answers. This is the first installment of the Augma series, where white shall be tarnished before all to see.

I want to preface this review by saying that I'd love to see these devs continue to improve and make more vns, and that I'm leaving a "recommended" rating in support of the devs, rather than in support of this game specifically. At the end of the day, this is a *free* visual novel that, despite my gripes with the writing, has clearly had an enormous amount of love and effort put into it. To start with the biggest strengths of the vn, the music and visuals are quite good. While some character sprites are a bit rough-looking, they are still very charming and have a unique art style that fits the atmosphere of the vn. Some characters introduced later have a more polished art style, so it seems like it may be halfway through some form of revamp, but it looks good regardless, and the mismatched sprites don't stick out as much as you'd expect. There's also a very hefty amount of animation, especially during fight scenes; it's some of the most involved animations I've ever seen in a visual novel, and they are honestly very impressive, both from a technical standpoint and a visual polish standpoint. The music is also quite good, and although it's not exactly my cup of tea, it's all very …

this is such a self-indulgent piece of fiction im in awe. there is so much edgy stuff, so much chuuni stuff, its almost overwhelming at times and i love it. it's amazing, it knows exactly what it is and it takes full advantage of that. sometimes it gets a bit too dense and throws a few too many things at you in quick succession, but you'll be able to understand most things by the end. the art's quite unique and gives a distinct feel which i'm a big fan of, same goes for the music. i can tell that the author, hell the whole studio is so proud of what they've made here and they have every right to be because they slayed.

Thanks a whole lot for the reference! Nice and unique work so far!! Thumbs up to the devs!

Positive: 📖 Augma II – Arc I is a free sci‑fi thriller visual novel that blends psychological horror, action, and a gripping dystopian story. You follow a character through an ashen metropolis, uncovering mysteries and experiencing a rich narrative with memorable characters and atmospheric storytelling. 🎶 The soundtrack is varied and well‑composed, pairing tension and emotion effectively with your journey through the narrative. 🏆 The game includes 15 Steam achievements tied to reaching key story moments, exploration, and progress through the arc, giving clear goals for completion. Negative: 🔁 Core gameplay is purely a visual novel — almost entirely reading and narrative decisions; there’s limited interactive gameplay beyond that. 📜 Since this is only Arc I of a larger story, the experience can feel like an introduction rather than a full standalone adventure. 🏆 Completionists & Achievement Hunters: There are 15 Steam achievements to unlock. ⏱️ Fast players familiar with visual novels can unlock everything in about ≈10–20 minutes, while those who take time to savor the story, explore dialogues, and read at a steady pace may take ≈20–45 minutes or more to fully complete all a…
