Axial Disc 1

I can very much say this is a great experience and well worth the time investment. The story is a bit of a slow burn for me, it didn't grasp me immediately but it did get me about 2-3 hours in. It took me a while to get used to Sai's dialog it made me roll my eyes at first but after a while it just became normal and the game does well to build a setting as an npc will let you know it's a dialect from a different area in the world. There's a lot of really funny bits and the game wears it's inspirations on it's sleeve proudly with some subtle and not so subtle references to other franchises. Going from playing this devs latest game at the time of writing the review Silver Daze you can see a lot of this games DNA in it. I finished the game but I don't have much more to say about it, I will likely think about this game for a while. RPG Maker strikes again! "Axial Disc 1" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This garbage RPG Maker asset flip features a couple of bespoke assets (we know this because they look even worse than the flipped RPG Maker assets) and once more is a godawful generic JRPG coupled with a fan-fiction cringefest about the developers imaginary girlfriend. Ugh. But worse, this isn't the full game, it's just an advertisement for the full game that you have to buy as a separate product on Steam... yeah, the purpose of this cringey fan-fiction is to try get you to pay $9 to buy the rest of it. I don't recommend you do that. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer…

This was real good. The boss fights got a bit tedious towards the end but it had a really good flow to everything and pretty decent writing.

huh, this might take me a while to beat, so I'll just update this review once I do. so far the story and combat are great though.

Axial Disc 1 and Disc 2, a double game in this modern era. It would be inaccurate to say that Disc 2 is a sequel, because it is more literally a second disc that completes the story. Much like the older era of PS1 games (looking at you Final Fantasy) where you had two to three discs for a single game. While Disc 1 does not have a bad ending to it, it does feel somewhat incomplete. So you could still get a rather good experience and story all from playing this free game. That's right, Disc 1 is free and it is Disc 2 that costs money. I would also like to say, for a free game to let you try the game out and see if it is your liking, and only getting the complete story by buying the second half of the game, brilliant. It is almost like Disc 1 is more of a demo disc, but it is still packed with a lot of content. I beat both discs in about 24 hours of play, but even then there's still side content and post-game content that I did not get to. But I can say that I definitely feel like I got my money's worth for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the music is kickin', hands down.
