STORY

In the city of Atro, a clandestine organization dedicated to vengeance has recruited a supernatural being known as a 'shadow spawn'. Unburdened by a human soul and composed of pure darkness, his incredible powers make him an unparalleled killer. When the immortal leader of the Vengeance Guild reawakens, she sends him on a mission that will forever change the world.
GAMEPLAY

'EX' feature, more commonly seen in the fighting game genre. Alongside the traditional HP and SP meters, a third EX meter allows characters to 'meter burn' the majority of their skills! For example, a skill that has a small circular area-of-effect can be meter burned to target all onscreen enemies. Or a combo skill can use the character's EX meter to boost its damage by the number of hits in the combo. Which skill to meter burn in which battles will allow deep player strategy and enable different approaches to the challenges of the game.
Alongside the battles, the player's choice of party (max of 3 characters) will change the way they explore the environments in the game! The 8 characters in the game all have 'exploration skills', ranging from telekinetically floating out of range treasure chests, to charming on screen enemies, to speaking with the dead for hints about the current dungeon. Bringing certain characters along with you will open up new options in previously visited areas. What Steam players say

The most fun, polished, and well thought out rpg maker game I've ever played.2 found this helpful
Really fun and enjoyable game. Unlike a lot of games that are of this make and model, this one has a ton of skills where pretty much all of them have some use. You aren't stuck with 100 skills and spells but find that there is just 2 that you cast the entire game play.1 found this helpful
This game is outstanding! Honestly, it's one of the best RPGs I have played in a really long time. It's not just the great story, the amazing, very flawed, but lovable characters, the interesting game play....the level of detail in everything is so good. I mean, you can tell if you're walking on wood, grass, snow...that level of detail is rare. So many others have described it so well. I have no idea why this game isn't well known and more played. Truly a gem!
Steam Deck
First off, if you have any issues with steam deck, look here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1861870/discussions/0/3805027459324205759/
Review
Okay, I've played this enough now to feel confident in leaving a review. The game is REALLY good. What really shines to me is the gameplay, be that the battle mechanics (which have so many variables and unique elements it makes bosses legitimately crazy fun. I can't gush enough about how much I enjoy the battles, and as someone slowly becoming fatigued with turn-based battles, it got me excited all over again) Then there's the gimmicks, and I don't use this negatively at all. The puzzles in certain areas are awesome, and the "a-ha!!" moment I just had today with a boss when looking a little closer at the background was also awesome. Every character serves a purpose and has unique fighting mechanics, like a shapshiter basically having a completely different play style for every (collectable and sometimes hidden on the map) form, and the gunner that needs certain ammo for moves, etc. Even pressing the back button/key right after using a skill to use a special version already adds so much to the fights.…
Can't remember why...but there must have been a reason why I asked for a refund.
An innovative JRPG experience with amazing story and excellent attention to detail, Shadow Fate offers an unforgettable journey through an interesting and relatable world. I was fortunate to watch the development process and be a beta tester, giving me insight on how the game was created. The project was made by a very responsive and creative developer who did incredible work with the available tools and resources, even making much of their own. The main cast of characters are all very interesting with their own stories and personalities, eventually coming together in a comprehensive and entertaining way. The events guiding them in the story are fluid and doesn't force the player into making too many unwanted decisions, giving you the freedom to play how you want. Combat is very fun as you have a wide variety of equipment, skills, magic and items to use at your disposal. Progression is smooth and doesn't lead to too much grinding for levels or money. The EX Skill system takes this game to the next level by enhancing your skills in the middle of battle. The story is incredibly well-written with all kinds of characters to interact with and places to visit along the way. There is …
