About Bad Writer

Hello! My name is Emily and I just lost my job. So I decided to chase my dream and try to make it as a writer. I have the support of my wife Cleo, and enough savings for a month. After that, we'll see what happens. But I know I can do it! I just need to stick with writing and submitting short stories each day.

The top selling game now finally comes to Steam!

You play Emily, a struggling writer, trying to make it in the big bad world of short story publishing in this life sim/rpg hybrid game. The key element to this game is the happiness meter, you want to keep Emily happy enough that she doesn't give up writing. You walk around your house, interacting with different things to get ideas, and writing short stories.

Try not to get too distracted, or you will get sad that you hadn't written during the day, making your happiness meter go down. Get too sad, and it's game over. She gives up and gets a new job doing something far less fun and stressful. When you're done getting ideas, you can go to her computer, write the stories, and submit it for publication. But be careful! There are distractions on your computer as well, and if you spend too much time on social media instead of writing, it could be game over as well. The only thing that makes her happy is writing and publishing, and yet..why is it so hard to write?

*Edited to fix grammer and sentences that didn't make sense since I wrote it while I wasn't fully awake* I want to start by saying it is a good base for a game and I hope to see more work on it. I would recommend, and I think this could be a great game, if it gets some more content. Right now it's debatable if it is worth $5 but it has a nice, be it small, loop. (The loop of balancing ideas with happiness is interesting) But the game is very short and I got through one play through in about 20 minutes. I like the art style and the song it has is pretty nice. But at the moment it seems more like a demo than a full game. I If I could offer some ideas: - A year system with events that maybe you need money/ideas and could get ideas/items from to help you gain more ideas or improve your ability to get ideas. -A money system with the ability to buy items/furniture to give more customization and things that you can get ideas from. -Having to make x amount to pay monthly bills. that could tie into my next idea. -Relationship with your wife and maybe a couple friends. (I actually wouldn't mind if the game took place entirely in the house) I think some more things to balance and some way…

I'm a writer. I'm not published yet. I found the idea of this game intriguing. I love pixel art and tiny games. But you know what I really like? Something that doesn't depress me. If you're a writer and suicidal, don't play this game. It will hit you where it hurts in less than five minutes. If I elaborate further than that I might actually do it. I'd just like to tell the developer that I hope you rot in hell. This was foul trickery

This is a very simple game, you get 3 rooms and like 10 interactive objects and thats the whole game. You read a book, go for a walk, write a story, submit it, check email and thats it. Fun for like 15 minutes. Too bad, I think this had potential were it developed any further. The base idea is good, it is just very bare bones. Like Stardew Valley, where you cannot leave the house and get a single flower pot to grow your flowers. So at this price point I really cannot recommend it. Its like a demo that you should be able to get for free. I also have to mention few technical points: 1) It does not save your progress in any way, once you quit it, you start over. I would expect at least some scoreboard, or something. 2) Controller support is debatable. xbox controller did not work - the game acted like buttons are being pressed, but I did not touch anything.

A playthrough of this game about a starting short story writer takes about as much time as reading a short story, and not a very long one among those. Which is quite apt. As an editor, I can assure that the simulation is rather realistic. Also, I now have an urge to try writing the stories mentioned in the game. So, it can be considered to be inspiring. Which means you can legitimately use it for procrastination, instead of actually writing whatever it is you should be writing. So... congratulations to us all?

Game is unrealistic. I'm a published author, yet I've never sold a short story to a magazine...until this game. Wait. Am *I* the bad writer??
