Players are deeply divided on Barold. Critics condemn it as a poorly made, uninspired retro platformer with sloppy controls, amateurish artwork, and inadequate precision platforming mechanics that feel unpolished and untested. Supporters appreciate it as a short, challenging platformer with a nice art style, though their positive comments are significantly outnumbered by complaints about the game's fundamental design and presentation quality.
Barold is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one is particularly badly made, and while there's no pixel "art", it's badly drawn. Controls are a bit sloppy, you can fall off platforms if you're near the edge... not a lot of testing was done here. Gameplay is equally poor and uninspired, with precision platforming and a bit of projectile dodging, although the best projectile you could ever dodge is by not buying this game. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The artwork here is terrible, it's all just amateurish "My First Wacom Tablet" style drawings used instead professional looking game assets. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can create graphical assets properly, or lack of talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low, enough on its own to deter gamers. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's n…4 found this helpful
Standing Here I realize You are just like me Trying to make history But who's to judge The right from wrong When our guard is down I think we'll both agree That violence breeds violence But in the end it has to be this way3 found this helpful
