About Battle for Iwo Jima
Battle for Iwo Jima simulates the Invasion and desperate fighting for the island from Feb 19th, 1945 to March 26th, 1945. You take command of the US Marines and will test your ability to do better than those brave Marines did back in 1945.

Each turn in the game represents one day with each day broken into phases. In each phase you get to move, support, or attack following a strategy that has to combine enemy lines penetration, HQ communication lines, and overall support for the units that are in heavy contact with the enemy.
Units are approximately company-sized.

Be warned this is not an easy game to win. You will need to exercise Command and Control over your units by keeping them in range of their HQ to retain their effectiveness in battle. Armor should be used in a supporting role and not in the front lines otherwise the Japanese will eat them for breakfast. Troops need to rest and not be constantly engaged in combat. Numbers are on your side but the enemy has strong defensive positions and amazing fighting ability.

Use the support points on units that are likely to be fired upon by the Japanese, especially when moving, to reduce your losses. Keep your units fatigue levels low by resting them from combat as they will become less effective as they keep on fighting.

38 hours playing to lose after 7 days max every single game. ♥♥♥ artillery hits and always causes casualties, they can fire 2 hexes always causing casualties, they can ambush and always hit, they banzai and always hit, the Americans have support which does nothing, they cannot hit anything, they cannot assault. Pointless game made to look pretty and that is it.6 found this helpful
I like this game because it feels like a really old school tweezers and cardboard game. The problem is it has some bugs here and there that are basically gamebreaking, so I can't recommend it. Numerous times I got near the end of a multi-hour campaign and the game suddenly tells me that I've lost. It's pretty annoying. I can't find any reason why I lost other than that I have lost before, then started a new game.2 found this helpful
I dislike the way the game decides when you have lost, by having met fanaticel resistance and not enough objectives Ended on turn 4 one game ( I had one of two objectives ) and turn 7 in another. Moving units is a chore, as they are always get directed past Enemy units, so they get fired on. It's a pain having to break down each unit's move multiple times to avoid this. Maybe that's the tactics/strategy, but it's cumbersome. It is not possible to enter certain hexes next to the enemy, which I find frustrating. ♥♥♥ artillery is just random, it will hit units on the other end of the map and does not appear to support defending units sometimes. Enemy units do not move, ( which I suppose is correct for the defence ) so just advance, attack and repeat. There is no combining attacks from units just a piece meal one unit attack at a time against the defender, although you don't lose a step/strength or fatigue when attacking. There wasn't enough depth for me to play this time again to try and get to the end or even try and Win. I was hoping for a bit more than the game has to offer, lucky for me I bought this on Sale for about £5 so I got my money''s worth, but it was just not enjoyab…2 found this helpful
I liked the historical aspect of the game, but it seems the AI was at times ridiculously and overtly coming to the rescue of the Japanese units. I wiped out the entire Japanese army within the prescribed amount of time and captured every objective but was still given a "Draw." A win is a win, not a draw.1 found this helpful
Oh, WOW..this hex-board game is a hard one, I tried playing it accordingly to the [ timetable given within ] and lost twice, even though I did not allow the Imperial Japanese army to inflict any heavy loss on my part...But, still could not reach the acceptable goals of taking the "main objectives" in winning the game...give it a try, and be very thankful that you did not have to fight in that war...Thank a Vet....1 found this helpful
Battle for Iwo Jima is a little nice wargame. It plays, looks, and feel as a computer port of a traditional board wargame, one on the simple side of the complexity scale. I would even say too simple for my tastes, and with some less than stellar implementations rules-wise. There are several good ideas and several bad ones. Being this a short Steam review, I will not talk about the battle, and limit myself to the game. First the good part. The map, by Marc Von Martial (he also drew the map of my Lion of Malaya!) is excellent, and pleasant to see. There is an embryonic command system forcing the player to maintain some sort of divisional integrity. More critically this system enforce some sort of planning, with each of the three marine division needing a distinct geographical objective. The fatigue system also show both the progressive exhaustion of USMC troops, and the need to rotate units on the frontline. Tanks are (like in the real battle) better as support units than attacking directly. The bad news... well the command system is really embryonic, just divisions, no battalions, no regiment. This is a big let down for me. Basically a whole division is an amorphous mass …
