About Being Left The F*** Alone Simulator

BLTFA Sim is a mindfulness and self-care game in the style of a 90's era adventure game.

Non-violent, non-stressful and a little tongue-in-cheek, this game is a response to the intensity of modern living and the commodification of our attention. It is designed as a peaceful and healing "time out" from the world with a focus on simply looking after yourself.

The relaxing gameplay is complemented by a beautifully serene soundtrack by The Aurora Principle.

This is an odd little game. For some reason it's styled like an old adventure game... specifically like it was built on the 1980s Sierra Online adventure game engine. It does what it says on the tin. You just wander about your house doing the things that you like, and interacting with your cat, and a few self-help things. I completed the game (scoring 161 out of 161 points) in 38 minutes, including the time I tried and failed to get into the meditation audio track embedded in the game. What doesn't work: - The Sierra adventure game engine for me is mentally associated with dying a lot, for barely any reason, it's always in the back of my mind and is at odds with the intended vibe of the game. - True and authentic to the adventure game engine, movement is really bad and you get stuck on almost every object you could catch yourself on. Especially the steps in the front garden. This frustration also seems at odds with the intended vibe of the game. - There's a minigame where you look into a mirror and are invited to type affirming messages to yourself. This feels like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but is at least optional. However, if you try to do it, you get stuck on about the 3rd or 4th affirming …

Do you just "love" self-help books? Aren't those genius? No? Well, neither is that "game" here. You waste your time in the protagonist's house, mostly observing the cat (even the author of the game admits that the cat's the best part of this game) and try to relax for getting points. If you hang outside in the hammock or talk to yourself in the mirror, you will get advice for a meditation exercise and getting brainwashed (calling it brainwashing suits even more if you think about the fact that this mentioned mirror is in your bathroom), by "genius" mantras of "love". Amused me that one of those mantras were "you are doing a great job", because I assume that the creator of this game needed to convince themself to have done a great job with this game here. I wouldn't have said anything if this game would have been for free, but seriously asking money for that?! And it seems like all of the good reviews here were written by the developers friends. "This game made me cry" as a positive review for it's "touching" content?! Well I would have understand if people would cry after recognizing to be betrayed after buying this "game" here, but no there's nothing touching here at all. Nothing…

BLTFA Sim is a wonderful excuse to take a break and breathe. In a world of constant distractions, desperately vying for your attention, this is the gaming equivalent of a bench in the middle of nowhere.
