Beneath a Steel Sky (1994) (2020)

Comic book artist Dave Gibbons (most famous for Watchmen) created the art for Beneath a Steel Sky and this fact makes this game a unique point-and-click adventure game from the 90s. The gameplay itself is typical for 90s point-and-click games: Figuring out what you need to do to advance can be very hard and often you have to resort to watching walkthroughs. In the story, comedy is mixed with quite morbid events and themes. I would recommend this game to people who are interested in comics and how their essence can be infused into video games. Beneath a Steel Sky is a pioneer in this sense, although its gameplay can be frustrating at times.

This game is a classic, even among the various point and click games by Lucasarts in the SCUMM or "Sierra type" definitions. I first bought this on iOS in 2013 and I was engrossed in it quickly, and I doubt I stopped until I got all the way through. The game's narrative has thriller action moments, a mystery that isn't a box, and a quirky/interesting world to puzzle through and discover why you were taken here, and how to find your way out. If you enjoy any point and click adventure games that involve thinking puzzles and logically solving your way towards advancement; this one is for you. My caveat is the sequel is not much of a sequel.
