About Bientôt l'été
Bientôt l’été is a videogame for two players. Two players who pretend to be lovers. They pretend to be lovers separated from each other by lightyears of deep space. They have lonely walks along the shore of a simulated ocean, thinking wistful thoughts of each other. Thoughts from ancient Earth literature by Marguerite Duras.
The empty beach, the strong wind, the gentle music and a small colony of electric seagulls are their only companions. Yet their heart is full and their mind confused. Walk along the shore, until they meet the emptiness.
When it all becomes too much, they run towards each other. Enabled by intergalactic networks, they touch each other’s holographic bodies in cyberspace. A surreal game of chess becomes the apparatus through which they, man and woman, can talk. The words they have were given to them, as they have always been to lovers everywhere.
The sea remains, tugging at their hearts when not at their hairs and clothes, as it itself is tugged by the virtual moon. And as great as the desire for the other may be, they cannot stay away from the wind and the waves and the sand. Every time they find a new treasure. An abandoned tennis field. An heap of coal. A dead dog. Ordinary. Absurd. Meaningless. Yet comforting.
Enter a café, exit a villa, enter a casino, exit the ruin of an ancient colonial mansion. We know this is not real. So it doesn’t surprise us. Nothing surprises us. It doesn’t matter when you feel the pain of love. Of being in love, of falling in love, of leaving in love. There is no such thing as time. There is only love. And it never stops. No matter how much it hurts.

This might be the worst walking simulator I have played and I have played some really bad ones. The game doesn't have sound settings or any kind of real settings at all, the controls are really weird and the game itself is weird, boring and doesn't explain anything what is going on. The price point of it is ridiculous too.3 found this helpful
This game was released before Itch(dot) io existed. A shame, as that was the place for an interesting experience like this to be. Unfortunately, I can't give a positive review for something that should be for free.2 found this helpful
heads up sometimes these ghosts will flat out tell you to die! I mean jokes on them right cause then they gotta put up with me all day! describe this game.. A fun limbo dimension that the french language duolingo sends you to if you do VERY badly, yr fate.. to learn french from A disharmonious domestic discourse of the dead. chess? ...C'est ça ? a fully functioning metaphor for arguments with your loved 1 is a game that rules are of little significance to, point being ok so maybe the kight can jump over other pieces but dammit I need clear justification of our meta entanglement! A tranquil complaisant fractured memory of a peacfull place in chaos, also a great way to learn random french phrases in a smokey isolated room from the jilted dead who just want to remember something worth feeling again! for some this game will be pointless but if you see it as a place of tranquil contemplation and casual conversations with the sky the beach and mildly moody quietly vengeful french ghosts it is exactly what we all need! 10/10 this is a haunting memory somewhat looped, that dreams of A possible future, we are all in our little loops too involved to see from outside yet yearning to be ou…
Bientôt l'été opens up with the message that it's not a game and more of an experience - it's meant to be some kind of art project rather than a more traditional game. I didn't find it very interesting or compelling. I think the amateurish look with blown out lighting didn't help. It looks like a stereotypical low effort indie game at first glance. There's little to actually do - walk on the beach, look at random things in dream sequences, and smoke cigarettes. The author [url=https://steamcommunity.com/app/229600/discussions/0/846944689695935356/?ctp=9]claims[/url] that people who don't enjoy it often are expecting too much, as this was created without "much concern for game conventions and traditions". That's one of this project's biggest issues - it's trying to be some pretentious piece of art but gives very little to no care for the medium it's expressed in.
This is too weird and/or pretentious. I don't know, just pick one. I know I didn't play it for long, but I seemed to got myself into a dead end my first time playing. There was nothing interesting enough for me to try again. If this was a free game, I would have just uninstalled the game and moved to the next one, but it's not, so this is not recommended.
