About The Graveyard

The Graveyard is a very short computer game. You play an old lady who visits a graveyard. You walk around, sit on a bench and listen to a song. It's more like an explorable painting than an actual game. An experiment with poetry and storytelling but without words.

Buying the full version of The Graveyard adds only one feature, the possibility of death. The full version of the game is exactly the same as the trial, except, every time you play she may die.

Not all games are meant to be defeated. The song is top. Love this short experience. Not for everyone, of course.

Weird little game,... or maybe it's not. Maybe this is interactive music video or memento mori moment in digital form? Can't remember where I got this but wonder if someone paying 3.99€ get money's worth. Do I dislike it enought to give thumb down? No. Guess it serves exactly what it aims to be. At least it's honest in "About This Game" section.

I walked very slowly to the bench, turned to sit, and did so. Saw a close up of my face, then I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ died and couldn't close the game. 10/10 would review in 2026 again

Its super short, do not think this is a actual game. its an art project. fun fact: this game is one of the direct inspirations for the Tibetan village sequence in Uncharted 2 "Some people at Naughty Dog didn't think that this scene would work, as we couldn't allow the player to run, jump or climb, perform combat moves on villagers or pull out their gun. I had just played a game however that made me feel that it was definitely going to work." That game was The Graveyard. Lemarchand said it had affected him "much more than he expected" with its simple experience of leading a slowly-moving elderly lady through a graveyard. "I thought that in the same way that The Graveyard had created a space for me where I could reflect, so could our village." - Naughty Dog designer Richard Lemarchand source: https://www.gamedeveloper.com/design/indiecade-em-uncharted-em-s-unlikely-indie-inspirations

From the moment we are born, we are on a timer. This applies to everybody, doesn't matter who your parents are, who you choose to be, where you are or what you do in life. One day, this timer will hit 0 & that'll be it. Your life, over. Your body, either buried or burned. That's what this game tries to tell the player. The Old Lady likely has no body left. No children or grandchildren, no husband or siblings. She's likely known many people in her life, many of them likely in the ground she walks past. The ground she'll one day be put into, as those of us who choose to be will. Understandably, this isn't for everyone, but I do recommend to give this a try before you sit where the Old Lady sits.
