About BioShock™ 2 Remastered

✦ AI summary

Play as a Big Daddy protecting your Little Sister through the underwater ruins of Rapture, wielding weapons and plasmids in intense first-person combat while uncovering a dark mystery. This sequel combines explosive shooter gameplay with a haunting story of survival and moral choices in a beautifully decayed dystopian city.

BioShock 2 provides players with the perfect blend of explosive first-person shooter combat and compelling award-winning storytelling. The halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. Players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, as they travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and their own survival.

Features:

  • High Resolution Textures, Models and Interface Art
  • 4K Resolution Support
  • The Protector Trials
  • You receive the call: Tenenbaum desperately needs you to steal as much ADAM as possible, to help thwart Sofia Lamb's insane plan. Enter the Protector Trials: frantic combat challenges designed to push your mastery of weapons and Plasmids to the limit. The goal in each Trial is simple: get your Little Sister to an ADAM-rich corpse and keep her safe while she gathers precious ADAM. Opposition mounts as your Little Sister nears her goal -- will you survive the onslaught?

Each Trial features three unique weapon and Plasmid load-outs, keeping the challenge fresh, as well as a fourth bonus load-out the player receives when all previous load-outs are completed.

I liked the game a lot. Mechanically, I think the first game was better, which is mainly because of the weapon variety. In the first game, the weapon variety was smaller but all the weapons felt more useful. In the second game, you have more weapons and some feel kind of weird. One of them is not even a weapon but a remote hacking device, and the drill is not very useful in the late game either. That makes it very frustrating when cycling through the weapons in an intense fight. I also liked the hacking mechanics a lot more in the first one. Story-wise, I liked this game much more than the first game. You feel a lot more invested in the game and the characters, and it is cool that you have more moral choices in this one. One thing that is important to say though, is that this game is very much not optimized for modern PCs. I experienced constant crashes, and from what I read online, this is to be expected. However, I can't really hold that against this game. The requirements say Windows 7 and you can't really expect the devs to patch the game to make it work 10 years later.

The game is extremely enjoyable, and Minerva's Den is lowkey a masterpiece of the narrative and linear FPS subgenre. I've had zero crashes, no issues, and the game holds up amazingly well.

The first ever game I fell in love with.

Fun gameplay and enjoyable story. However, it crashes very frequently. Probably shouldn't be sold on steam in its current state. Worth it if purchased at a discount.
