The real border is the one blocking you from level 19

Edit: As you can see below, the developer has updated the game. If this message is still up, it means I haven’t tested it yet (or at least not enough to write a whole new review). Because of that, some parts of the review below may no longer be up to date. Thank you for your understanding, and happy gaming!
Black Border 2 absolutely blindsided me (in the worst possible way). Because here’s the thing: the game itself is genuinely fun. It nails that Papers, Please–style inspection loop while adding its own twist with base-building, resource balancing, managing fame, choosing whether to take bribes, all wrapped in a cute, slightly Fallout-flavored dystopian aesthetic. The learning curve is perfect, the variety of tools and cargo checks is engaging, and the whole ambiance pulls you in immediately. I was fully ready to stamp “strongly recommend” on this one. And then I hit level 19. And… nothing. Because the game stops at level 18. Out of 50. Yes. They’re literally selling a trial version. It’s even still labeled “TRIAL VERSION” on the bot…

Hey, it's a fun game that keeps you entertained and gets tougher as you go along. It can get a bit repetitive after a while since it's pretty much the same stuff, but you can definitely lose track of time and play for hours. Plus, considering the price, it feels pretty fair!!

Big fan of Papers Please. I previously played this game on my phone and really enjoyed it so decided to also grab it for my PC. The steam version is exactly the same as mobile, but slightly less buggy. I am not sure why some folks are not able to get past level 19. I purposefully played really fast to get to level 20 and planned to request a refund if it was indeed blocked, but I did not find that to be the case for me. I played for 5 hours and beat the game, all unlocks, all achievements, etc. It's a $2 game. If you liked the gameplay of Papers Please, you'll like this game. It lacks the same depth and there is no storyline, no consequences for making wrong choices or taking bribes. For a fun little game at this price point, I think it's nice. If you have issues getting any of the achievements to unlock, try exiting to the main menu and then going back into your base. If you are unable to get a certain level to unlock, make sure you have upgraded any items needed to unlock the next level. If you don't have enough cash for an upgrade, replay the previous levels.

Entrains: ↑↑↑ [inhibitory control] No other benefit. No practical value. Graphics are quite a bit less fun than Not Tonight, but it has a consistent art style. For this type of game, less is more, because the whole game is "lulled to sleep," OOPS you make a mistake. Works great on Linux. TIPS: Personally, I wear a sport coat when I play games like this. It helps set the mood. Maybe I need a military surplus jacket for this one, actually.
