Black Chapter

This game is actually a little gem. When Evan and his classmates visit the famous Durhal Cathedral, they get locked in and have to find a way to get out. But after some mysterious events, things get bad very fast. It took me about 4 hours to finish the game with all endings, but it's possible to finish in about 2 or 3 hours, depending on one's playstyle. Black Chapter contains some very good jump scares and chasing scenes, as well as some minor detective mechanics, which I enjoyed very much. It's possible to save at the end of the game to get all of the different endings, so there's no need to replay the game every time just to get a different ending. Another thing to point out, the developers were very friendly and responsive in the forums. Black Chapter is not an RPG maker game, but made in Unity, for anyone who cares about this. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys games like the "Strange Men" series.

The writing is cringey weeb garbage (I say this as a total weeb myself). You're in a prestigious British high school that just spontaneously has an American, two Japanese, and a Korean out of an 8 person class. Three of the five girls instantly want your D before you're out of the first cutscene, and one of the girls is actually a trap cosplayer who insists everyone call her "Surprise-chan". One of the guy characters also constantly and cringily talks about how perfect Japanese girls are. The actual writing is also very bland and nondescriptive, with no real differences between how any of the characters talk. But the part that made me quit was a section where you literally walk down a hall, hear some scraping, then start walking back and get instakilled with no warning. The game does not have autosave, so that death sent me back 30 minutes to the last time I saved (as there is zero danger in the first segment of the game) and killed all desire I had to continue. It's just not a very good game, it clearly is the dev's first effort at game making but that doesn't excuse it IMO. They really need to hire someone else to do the writing for them.

Too hard to beat :/

Black Chapter is an incredibly tiny game in a big world. The game is interesting, short and sweet. I have played every ending despite my achievements not showing it (Probably because of some error) and I like how the endings aren't locked to a specific route or path and allows you to see all of them.

My first impression of Black Chapter is that it's a run of the mill horror anime spat out into RPGMaker. At least as far as the cast of characters goes. But I don't mind anime so I don't mind this game either.
