Bluey's Quest For The Gold Pen

The game has some great charm if you are a fan of the Bluey show, its very simple but that is what they were going for. I do like the final boss challenge and kinda wished there were some type of boss challenge at each level after the 1st one. The game is great otherwise.

Okay, overall the game isn't bad, not at all. It has potential. The gameplay is simple enough that even small kids can play it, but not so easy that older players get bored right away. The world design reminds me a bit of the old Game Boy games like Zelda. The problem, as always, is everything else: Video sequences often just don't start at all. The sound plays, but you only get a black screen or a still image. The voice acting is only in English, which is a shame because the other Bluey game we have is really nicely dubbed in German. That wouldn't even be such a huge deal if the German texts hadn't been translated by a (very dumb) AI. Some of it is so bad that I sometimes have to guess what they actually meant. For example, the English "Exit" was translated as "Ausfahrt" — which means like a highway exit or parking lot exit... when it should obviously be "Beenden" (Quit/Exit). For a €40 game, I really expect more. This is not acceptable. Texts translated by AI — and clearly by a bad one that no one bothered to proofread afterward — plus game-breaking bugs that mean you can't properly experience the game. At first the game seemed very promising, and of an appropriate difficulty for my 7 year old. Unfortunately, it's very buggy. The game crashed on the first level while picking up one of the collectibles. The collectible is now gone but wasn't counted. I can't recommend it in its current state.

Bluey: Quest for the Golden Pen is a fun little collectathon adventure that does exactly what you'd expect from a Bluey game. It is very clearly aimed at younger kids, which is reflected in the difficulty, but if you go in with the right expectations, it can still be enjoyable for players of all ages. Unlike the previous game, it doesn't try to recreate Bluey's world exactly. Instead, it presents the adventure as an imaginative play session, with the same humour, charm, and creativity from the show. The cutscenes are animated in the familiar Bluey style, while the worlds themselves feel like they belong to the kids' pretend adventure. The gameplay is built around exploring worlds, collecting items, and completing simple puzzles. Exploration is enjoyable, with some worlds offering different ways to get around. My personal favourite was the world with the boat, which gave the exploration a bit more variety. However, the collectibles themselves don't offer much of a reward besides increasing the completion number on the world select screen. Most hours on kid's account. This game is much much higher production quality than the other Bluey game. It has great custom music, cute graphics, an interesting new story, and creative game elements. I'd say this game is actually worth full price. However there's one huge problem. This game is hard. Like really hard for children. There's timed challenges, where you have to accurately shoot and jump, with falling platforms. There's difficult logic puzzles where you have to think outside the box. The levels are huge and complex. I'd say this game is suited for 8–10 year olds, which is strange since I always thought Bluey was like a 4–7 demographic. It is possible to beat these games with adult help of course. We did it by having two controllers connected at once. I handled the aiming and shooting, my kid did the running and jumping. Makes me wonder if Bingoose was originally meant to be a playable second character? It would make much more sense if I could flit around and assist like that. If you're an adult with autism like me, it's really fun to collect stuff. Reminds me of Banjo Kazooie.
