Capable Backgammon client - does exactly as advertised. Developer went to some extra trouble to make sure it was compatible with and comfortable to play on the Steam Deck, too, so if you're looking for Backgammon on the go, this has you covered. (Despite being Unknown currently, it works just fine on the Deck.) Normally I'd leave a more in-depth review, but there's really not a lot else to say here - you can play Backgammon against bots or against other players, it's got integrated chat and player stats, and the interface is quite functional. Basically exactly what you'd expect from a Backgammon game! Also, you can't beat the price, so there's that.9 found this helpful
"Boxcars" is Backgammon, but the important part about this is that it's FOSS, so I'll waive my usual rigour for reviews... there's few reasons not to recommend FOSS to gamers. I will say this is obviously not the gaming experience for everyone, but if you want to play Backgammon, doing it the FOSS way is good for everyone. It's entirely noble for developers to create free, open source software that creates permanent enrichment for gamers and the gaming industry. Works on the Steam Deck, too. Weirdly the dev didn't link the git, it's here: https://code.rocket9labs.com/tslocum/boxcars5 found this helpful

I've used this on PC and my Android cell (using F-Droid to obtain the app). I really like the simplicity of the game. Not too many animations, etc., but still looks nice. The problem I have is the double rolls. It always seems like the AI is constantly getting double rolls, and myself as well but more likely when I can't use them. More importantly, I don't know the specific statistics, but the double rolls just seem to occur way too often. It's just not realistic, and I mean to say that I don't even want them that often for myself. Additionally, after previously thinking I was seeing some strange behavior, today I was really paying attention to the AI rolls. All in a row, without me having a turn, the AI rolled a 1 & 4, then double 6's, and then double 4's, and then a 4 & 6 after the second double roll. It's either intentional or a bug, but the rolls are often way too unrealistic, and I just uninstalled it from everything.
