Didn't think I could be jumpscared by a game engine, but who can really blame me when you see RPGmaker 2003 pop up on the intro page? Summary: Overall it's a pretty great little indie title all things considered, with solid character sprite art, a strange but sincere story, and an enjoyable combat system. It's also a game I think deserves more attention; it's definitely putting the 'hidden' in "hidden gem". Pros: Character Art: Really well done artwork for all the characters with a good cast, they're expressive and add a lot of color to the game. If I had to guess this is probably the reason most people are drawn to the title in the first place and it remains good throughout. Combat System: The game features 1:1 fights between the protagonist and the various enemies, with said engagements following set patterns of attacks, which are also unknown until you're hit by them. This makes for a pretty fun system where you're on the backfoot to start with, but can develop strategies to mitigate enemy strengths as the fights progress. I originally got the game cause I really liked the artsyle, and honestly its the best part of the game. Sadly it suffers from having a bad english translation, which makes the character dialogue very weird and sometimes nonsensical, although the story is still comprehensible for the most part. The gameplay outside of battling is pretty repetitive, the game can be resumed on doing the same thing 5 times, cause every "level" follows the exact same structure, said structure being incredibly simple. The characters are quite nice tho, I enjoyed most of them, although I did get a bit tired closer to the end. I wish I could give a neutral review cause I don't particularly love this game but I also dont hate it.

I was curious of this game when I first found it by watching a YouTube video a year ago, and when I played it I honestly liked it well enough. the story and characters were pretty good, mixing recourse management into an rpg was executed solidly, and the art style is very nice. However gameplay was kind of repetitive especially after doing a second playthrough. And while I said I liked the characters that doesn't really go for the character designs or rather their physical appearance. NOW just for the record I am not a prude, only that the physical appearances of both male and females are just buff men and busty women with very little to differentiate. Overall very solid game, deserves a bit more love and possibly a sequel/update to expand the world more.

Cool gameplay, great art style and enjoyable story! Was reminded of off when I first saw it so I picked it up, Overall a good time. For anyone put off by the NSFW aspects, they can be turned off completely and it doesn't feel like less of a game for it. Looking forward to anything else put out by this team!

By some miraculous act of ingenuity, Break Wolf was developed in RPGMaker 2003, making it technically impressive that this game is even able to exist. It's a solid and decently tactical turn-based RPG; the soundtrack is surprisingly varied with, for instance, jazzy tracks and industrial metal (perhaps the loops are too short); and the writing, despite the somewhat lacking translation, has some wit to it. Above all, though, the game is [i]stylish[/i]: everything ranging from the menus to the enemy designs and the minor cutscenes are wonderfully illustrated, hand-crafted for that specific menu or cutscene or level. Romit's visuals will change depending on his contamination and health levels, while Amoria's change depending on the outfit, even just while levelling up or changing your gene loadout. It's a real marvel to stop and simply enjoy the art and music. The game is a sort of eroge, but the "H-content" is in fact ecchi (there's no actual nudity), and it can be turned off either way. Probably the most offensive content is vulgar language; if you aren't scared by swears then I imagine you won't be scared by the "eroge" parts.
