Break Wolf

If you enjoy small RPG games, there is no reason not to play this. As a wayward ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it hit me in plenty of spots I wasn't expecting.

Pretty much the platonic ideal of a classic indie game: tons of wonderful and unique art assets and mechanics that keep you playing just to see what cool thing happens next, an adorable cast that all feel like the dev team loved and cherished each and every one of them, an edgekino story that's as heartfelt and sincere as it is wacky and a brisk ~10 hours playtime that doesn't outstay its welcome. It's the kind of game that just oozes soul and passion in just about every aspect of the presentation. As an aside, yes it is cool that all the men are ultra manly and all the girls are curvy and plump, it's fun to play a game this sexually-charged... BUT don't write it off as "just porn", it would still be an awesome game even if you took all that stuff out. Having played a bunch of horny games, I can say the subset of videogames that are sexy AND don't feel like pulling teeth is still somehow woefully sparse, so rarities like Break Wolf deserve recognition for raising the bar.

I was curious of this game when I first found it by watching a YouTube video a year ago, and when I played it I honestly liked it well enough. the story and characters were pretty good, mixing recourse management into an rpg was executed solidly, and the art style is very nice. However gameplay was kind of repetitive especially after doing a second playthrough. And while I said I liked the characters that doesn't really go for the character designs or rather their physical appearance. NOW just for the record I am not a prude, only that the physical appearances of both male and females are just buff men and busty women with very little to differentiate. Overall very solid game, deserves a bit more love and possibly a sequel/update to expand the world more.

Full disclosure: I pirated this game at first, but I felt compelled enough to buy it once I finished my first playthrough. And I'll try to not be too spoilery. This game is... incredible. It raised the bar for me on what constitutes as a great H-game - yes, this is a porn game; But the sex is less so to create a hot scenario for the player to goon to, but rather as another factor that progresses the relationship between characters and allows them to explore their sexuality. Hell, the scenes themselves are only implying the act. And my god the art direction this game took is incredibly inspired. The low resolution and choppy animations may put off some people, but as somebody who lived during the flash era, I felt right at home. The music is incredibly fitting. The sfx are crunchy. The character designs are simple but retain a charm from how expressive each sprite is. By some miraculous act of ingenuity, Break Wolf was developed in RPGMaker 2003, making it technically impressive that this game is even able to exist. It's a solid and decently tactical turn-based RPG; the soundtrack is surprisingly varied with, for instance, jazzy tracks and industrial metal (perhaps the loops are too short); and the writing, despite the somewhat lacking translation, has some wit to it. Above all, though, the game is [i]stylish[/i]: everything ranging from the menus to the enemy designs and the minor cutscenes are wonderfully illustrated, hand-crafted for that specific menu or cutscene or level. Romit's visuals will change depending on his contamination and health levels, while Amoria's change depending on the outfit, even just while levelling up or changing your gene loadout. It's a real marvel to stop and simply enjoy the art and music. The game is a sort of eroge, but the "H-content" is in fact ecchi (there's no actual nudity), and it can be turned off either way. Probably the most offensive content is vulgar language; if you aren't scared by swears then I imagine you won't be scared by the "eroge" parts.
