Breath of Death VII: The Beginning: Reanimated demonstrates a sharp, self-aware approach to turn-based traditions by blending nostalgic charm with modern convenience. Vibrant sixteen-bit visuals elevate the presentation far beyond the limitations of its predecessor, creating a cohesive aesthetic that feels both authentic and refined throughout the entire journey. Humour permeates the narrative, utilising frequent meta-commentary and affectionate mockery of iconic franchises such as Diablo or Resident Evil to maintain constant engagement. These witty exchanges ensure the story never takes itself too seriously, consistently balancing the weight of standard heroic tropes with clever, fourth-wall-breaking observations. Strategic combat remains the primary attraction, bolstered by a combo system that rewards players for chaining attacks before unleashing devastating finishers. Every level increase demands a thoughtful decision between two distinct bonuses, ensuring that character development feels both personalised and impactful as the party grows in strength. Fixed encounter counts per area provide a refreshing alternative to traditional grinding, effectively respecting the player’s…

A fun shorter turn based RPG in which the humor surprised me. Hard mode is far too annoying to be worth the effort and normal is a bit too easy. All the achievements are naturally obtainable (sans buying an item. finding peoples secret weapons, & using the chat command). It would have been nice to be able to change difficulty mid game instead of starting over after an hour. The hidden Dragonduck boss is also the least hidden boss I've ever seen in one of the most straight forward dungeons possible. This game has charm though; fleeced in through doofery. That's alright sometimes.

Breath of Death VII: The Beginning: Reanimated is a beautifully modernized revival of one of indie gaming’s most beloved retro-inspired RPGs, successfully transforming a once minimalist cult classic into a polished and visually upgraded adventure without sacrificing the humor, pacing, and charm that made the original memorable. What makes this remake especially impressive is how carefully it respects its roots while still improving nearly every aspect of the presentation and gameplay. Rather than reinventing the experience completely, the game focuses on refining and enhancing the original formula, creating a compact but highly entertaining role-playing adventure that feels nostalgic without becoming outdated. The story takes place in a strange post-human fantasy world populated almost entirely by undead creatures and monsters after humanity has vanished long ago. Players follow Dem, a silent skeleton knight who unexpectedly becomes involved in a larger conflict threatening the fragile balance of the world. Along the journey, Dem is joined by a colorful cast of companions including Sara, a sarcastic ghost historian, Lita, a technologically minded vampire, and Erik, an overly drama…

Turn based JRPG with a focus on comedy that doesn't tell too enough jokes imo. The game has a 'chat to party members' option but there's only like 5 conversations. Game has a Sewer Level joke where they go "Goddd I hate it when games have sewer levels" than proceeds to put you in a bog standard sewer level. There's a few good jokes but the majority don't land. Imo this game isn't great but I still enjoyed it, it feels very early JRPG & I like how the combat has a 'combo' mechanic where you can build up hits & multi hit attacks before cashing out with a one huge swipe attack. I like that healing breaks the combo meter too, adds a nice risk-reward system although I wish it was more rewarding. Very pretty pixel art & nice music too, sometimes the music is far too loud though. Overall I enjoyed this game & wouldn't mind checking out the original version.
