Broken Reality 2000

"Mid, Mid, Mid. Skip, Skip, Skip." - Poopypants Drake I enjoyed the first game but the craziness of this game was very unfortunate to see. The introduction of the new and old tools from the game was very nice to see. I also loved the scenery and aesthetic, the story was ok but did get hard to follow towards the end. My main issue lies mostly with the gameplay. The puzzles felt like they lack context in many areas and there were late introductions to new mechanics, especially towards the end. There were grammar errors in a few text too as well, but those are more easy to get by. I was looking forward to this addition, but my disappointment is immeasurable.

Pales in comparison to the original. Levels, in-world mechanics, and dialogue feel phoned-in. Many levels are genuinely a slog. A disappointing sequel with much less soul than Broken Reality 1.

I really enjoyed the first game, but this one just lacks polish. Small frustrations that take away from the whole experience.

I had a good time with this, I'm not sure why reviews seem so mixed on it. Sort of the "frutiger aero" to the first game's "vaporwave". I replayed the original game when this was due to come out just to refresh myself on it, and I'm glad I did as this sequel does like to make little references back to the original (and it's not like the original is an overly long game). If you haven't played since 2018 I'd recommend running through it first. I see a lot of reviews complaining that the Liker being a 3D model now instead of the 2D pixel from Broken Reality, while it is mildly cursed it's definitely intentional. They're clearly going for that bubble-y 3D style of the 2000s. It fits the aesthetic here, whereas the old 2D pixel Liker would feel out of place. It's all about being rounded and smooth in the 2000s. It has little 'quests' but the first game did too, the only difference is now you get a little journal to somewhat help keep track of them. Loved this and the first one. You can prefer the original all you want but doesn't deserve a negative cause of that. I hope another one gets made.
