Buffet Knight - Decadent Full Course

I only played a tiny bit of the game. But I can already tell it's not for me. This game is like Kirby meets Zelda. Eat things, shoot the food at enemies. Go on a grand adventure. It's very railroady at the start, but I imagine it opens up. I'm recommending it based on what I saw, and based on knowing that a lot of friends will enjoy it, even though I didn't. For instance, the controls are 100% remappable, even on PC, despite what the games one negative review states. You don't have to play directional keys, Thank gods. If the controls weren't remappable, I would've given it a negative. Because that's really bad for accessibility. My favourite option in the settings besides this, is the ability to turn off talking sounds. You know how a lot of these games will play a noise every time a letter comes up? (Why do games do this? It's so annoying!) Well, this game let's you turn that off. The music is cute, the characters are cute. The writing so far is cute. Probably my favorite Zeldalike in a long time. And there are some great ones out there! It's not as huge or ambitious as others, but everything it does, it does really well. The map isn't gigantic, but there are no throwaway screens, and no irritatingly designed ones, either. The special abilities actually have a decent amount of variety. The "inhale" mechanic has great flow. Good QoL. Good writing: nothing feels forced, it's light and fun. It's really hard to find things to criticize here. Chef's kiss.

The pixel art is vibrant and cozy, perfectly capturing a vibe that feels both retro and fresh. Particularly loved the fetch-quest tasks that reminded me of GB/GBA LoZ games. Yet another great example that proves indie games don’t need a ridiculously long story to be unforgettable. Grab your fork and dive in!

Pretty good game! It's exactly what it looks like on the cover: Silly, lighthearted fun where you go around on a wacky adventure, great for anybody who wants a relaxing little romp through a goofy world where nothing is that deep. The combat's on the easy side and it only gets easier the farther you get [especially if you like exploring], but the puzzles are actually solid to even really hard at times; I can only imagine the first person to ever find the secret boss took a good few hours trying to figure out the like seven step mystery to it. Or maybe I'm just stupid and missed something for said boss, that's also possible. Best way I have to describe this game for people who want to know what they're getting into is it's like if Gamefreak made a 2d zelda game starring Kirby instead of link (just without the lore a normal kirby game has), since it really does feel like a lot of the design ethos of Kirby can be felt in this game. It's not even because both have inhalation as a key mechanic, either. The game's really easy to get into but has a shocking bit of depth to it, especially if you want to go for 100% like me. I received Buffet Knight - Decadent Full Course from the developer through the Steam Curator Connect program about a year ago, and I apologize for not giving it a try sooner, since it's pretty neat. In short, it's a bite-sized (pun intended) top-down Zelda-like if you were playing one as Kirby, and I had a better time with it then with any Zelda game. It's also probably the most interesting game I've received a review copy of. You play as the titular Buffet Knight, a weird little purple dude with a mouth, a knight helmet, and no other distinguishing features. After hearing stores from his grandma about her time as a knight and her search for the fabled "Divine Taste", the greatest flavor in the world, he decided to follow in her footsteps. But on the day he completes his training as a knight and is invited to a banquet at Gourmet Castle, the evil Demon Chef attacks and steals all the kingdom's food! Buffet Knight sets out on a quest to retrieve the stolen food stores and face the Demon Chef. To get there, you'll need to explore varied nearby lands, each with its own dungeon, enemies, puzzles, upgrades and accessories, and of course- things to eat. Eating things and then spitt…
