ButcherBoy is a simple casual arcade game where you play as the son of a butcher working in the family workshop. The main idea is straightforward: move around, complete tasks, and try to master the levels. It is a small indie game that focuses more on quick gameplay and simple challenges rather than a deep story or complicated mechanics. The biggest positive about ButcherBoy is that it is easy to understand. The controls are simple, and you can start playing without needing a long tutorial. The game does a good job of keeping things basic, which makes it easy to pick up for a few minutes at a time. The gameplay has a decent arcade feel. The levels become harder as you progress, and there is some satisfaction in improving your movement and getting better at completing tasks. The character and tool customisation also add a small amount of extra content, even if they do not completely change the experience. However, the main issue with ButcherBoy is that it feels very limited. The core gameplay is simple, and after playing for a while you have seen most of what the game offers. If your goal is to farm achievements, this game does its job extremely well. Sure, many of them look like random doodles, but they are still fun, flashy, and distinctive enough to at least be considered for a spot on your profile showcase. On top of that, unlike many similar titles, it does not feel like a soulless achievement farm thrown together with zero effort. It actually offers a decent gameplay experience, with a little game that I personally found enjoyable, challenging, and even satisfying to tryhard. Once you get all the achievements, there probably is not much reason to keep playing it, but I still struggle to understand all the negative reviews. I have seen games with the exact same purpose do a hundred times worse and still get very positive, or even overwhelmingly positive, reviews. No need to overcomplicate it: this game is seriously underrated.
