I've played for 7 hours, and I can say that the game is beautiful, but it's empty. The plot drags on, the choices don't matter, and there's no emotion. The potential is there, but the execution is lacking.4 found this helpful

Pleasantly surprised when I saw that the characters are animated and voice-acted (in Russian), but the story does drag on..
Cain × Nica is a bleak, emotionally driven narrative experience developed and published by Aleksey Izimov that places human desperation and familial devotion at the center of a harsh post-apocalyptic world. Rather than relying on spectacle or elaborate mechanics, the game commits itself to telling a somber story about survival, moral compromise, and the lengths one will go to protect a loved one. From the opening moments, it establishes an atmosphere of cold and scarcity, framing every decision within a setting where hope is fragile and consequences are often cruel. The story follows Cain, a struggling man trying to keep his sickly younger sister Nica alive in a frozen society defined by rigid class divisions and unrelenting poverty. Daily life is reduced to scavenging scraps from icy refuse, trading dignity for survival, and navigating a social structure that offers little mercy to those at the bottom. Cain’s mounting debt to ruthless lenders becomes the catalyst for the narrative, forcing him into a series of increasingly desperate choices when repayment becomes impossible. The threat of losing Nica—whether to slavery, exploitation, or death—hangs over every scene, transforming …
I got some stupid ass piece of paper on the first day (completely useless btw imo) the next day i then went and kissed my sisters feet and hands??? (may be peak) and then we did some illegal mining of ice and found 2 batteries (only one half worked) so i sold my body to the woman (named noah) who was a merchant and kissed her feet (without asking may i add) to get a free hammer which i then used to kill some loan sharks that started beating me up and then after i also knocked out my own sister. 8.4/10 good visuals and amazing voice acting not worth the 8 euros however it is worth at least 3
There’s something really touching about this story. Cain × Nica isn’t just about survival — it’s about family, care, and hope in a dying world. The atmosphere and music make it feel almost like a dream. Loved every minute.
