Cascadou

A card game with combos based on various poker hands. I enjoyed the demo and was looking forward to this game on release. Your deck is 52 cards just like a standard card deck. Some rounds will have special rules that give higher scores for playing a certain hand. If you don't like your starting cards, you can redraw to use up 1 move. If you run out of moves and are below the required score, you lose. In the shop, you can buy a sticker with coins to add to any card. The effects will vary such as adding extra moves, giving you larger multipliers for playing certain cards, or increasing your score directly. Badges directly increase your multipliers and are permanent. [h1] Pros: [/h1] - Easy to learn and hard to master. Learning the best stickers and badges will determine if you win or lose a run. Also, making best use of your moves is essential. - Good UI interface and art presentation. Adding stickers to cards is clear and the game does not take itself too seriously. Cascadou has the foundation of a really fun deckbuilder. Pulling off big combos feels great, and the overall look and vibe are charming. I’ve definitely enjoyed playing it in short bursts. However, compared to similar poker-based roguelike deckbuilders, notably Balatro, I think where I'm finding Cascadou somewhat lacking is how difficult it is to infer *what* exactly will be scored and *why*. For example, in a recent run, I built a combo with a Flush and a Pair in it, which was touching another Pair to make a Two Pair - the cards were all "hovering" indicating both Pairs would be scored. Then I added a card on the end of each Two Pair to theoretically make two Three of a Kinds and suddenly they stopped being scored. Why? The fact that moving any card costs a move (out of a limited pool to start) makes this opaqueness extra painful by penalizing experimentation and reducing scoring potential. I've also encountered cases where hovering over a bunch of nearby cards in a row changes the number of cards that are scored, despite the card I'm actually playing being the same as before, which makes me think there's some bugginess in how hands are being identified. The parrot is cute. But does the content depth justify the price? Setting aside the overall scale, spotting poker hands among a cluttered sea of cards is far more straining on the eyes than in similar games like Balatro. The stickers on cards in the later stages only make it worse — you constantly have to check each one individually because the sticker effects aren't visually intuitive. With the sheer volume of cards, it becomes a real strain on your eyes before you've memorized everything. Then came the final battle. No hand previews? That's not difficulty — that's artificial friction, and it completely kills the fun. Is this a roguelike card game or an eye test? Please remove this restriction. And one more thing: why is "Save & Quit to Menu" labeled as "New Game"? That's just baffling. There's a solid game buried in here, but these design choices add up to a frustrating experience that feels more like a chore than a challenge. Hope to see improvements.

I love Solitaire and roguelites, so this is my cup of tea. I dont like tea though. But I do like this game!

There is that Balatro vibe regarding "damn, those stickers together can do bonkers!" and I love it. Graphics are trash though lol, but Mascott is cute. Cascadouuuu!

it's a nice little game, and i love the damn parrot. a bit on the harder side it seems, or i'm just dumb, as i haven't been able to win a run even on easy difficulty yet.
