Bad game. Don't waste your time with this one. Go play Strongholds

Citadels, developed by Games Distillery s.r.o. and published by HandyGames, is a medieval real-time strategy title that clearly aims to evoke the spirit of classic castle-building and siege-focused RTS games. With a setting loosely inspired by the collapse of Arthurian Britain, it attempts to combine narrative-driven campaigns with traditional resource management and large-scale battles. On the surface, it promises a return to familiar territory for strategy fans—but once you spend time with it, the experience reveals itself to be far more troubled than nostalgic. The game offers two opposing campaigns, allowing players to experience the conflict from different sides. The premise itself has potential, centering on the struggle for power in a fractured kingdom after the fall of King Arthur. Unfortunately, the storytelling does little to capitalize on that foundation. Narrative delivery is handled through static text and illustrated panels, with minimal presentation or pacing to support immersion. The Game hasn't been able to start up for years. Just a small window with "Citadels (Not Responding)" in the header and after a couple seconds that too will crash and disappear. Turns out the developer went defunct and passed the task of fixing this hot mess of a game to another company in the same year the game was published, but even the new company wasn't able to fix it and eventually dropped all support for the game. While steam still has this game linked to the publisher, neither the publisher nor the "new" developer have this game listed on their individual websites. It has been completely dropped and is no longer compatible with the newer computer systems. Would be nice if steam caught on and finally took the game out of the store but oh well. At this point all we can do is warn you.
