Picked this up on sale for a few bucks never having touched Cities XL, and honestly I had a good time with it. The industry balancing between farming, heavy manufacturing, and high-tech keeps you constantly adjusting your city layout, and being able to zoom all the way down to street level is a nice touch you don't get everywhere. That said, the UI feels clunky and disorganized, road placement can be frustrating, and the game does struggle with lag once your city gets large enough. If you already own Cities XL, skip this entirely because it is essentially the same game with a darker color scheme. For newcomers to the series who grab it on a steep discount, there's a decent city builder here worth your time.
Game itself is good. What brings it down is the stability issues and lack of polish( the game is rough as they come) and obviously it will never be patched nor updated ever again. BUT! I like the feel of it, cant put my finger on it but it is much nicer gamplay for me then city skylines. No complications, no uneccesary weight, just build until your memory runs out due to huge memory leackage.
7/10, gave this a thumb up and that score due to this made me able to play Cities XL again. In my opinion, nothing much changed in XXL, they just added new maps, map editor, and modding ability. Not like this is a complete overhaul from XL with, I don't know, sewage system, much robust transport (even this one is worse as they add trams in the statistics yet no way for you to put one), or more power plant options. Score is basically carried by XL, if you see this review, I suggest you to just get this firsthand rather than XL first, lose 180+ hours because of some unnamed crap.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Not worth it.
