Clash of the Kingdoms

2/10 Seashells Clash of the Kingdoms washed up with a lot of promises and immediately drowned me in its tutorial. The tutorial spans nine pages, clips off the screen, and while aesthetic, is hard to read and overwhelming. I could not figure out what was important to remember and was could be ignored at the start. Performance-wise, this game was laggy as all hell for me. The visuals and soundtrack are genuinely solid, immersive animated backgrounds and a great atmosphere, but on standard settings it felt like the game was actively trying to explode my PC. High processing demand, constant stuttering, and fans turning my room into an airport runway. Underneath the pretty shell, it’s feels like a glorified chess clone asset flip. There’s no pause menu, the controls feel clunky, and I couldn’t get the chess pieces to actually fight like the game promised, which was the whole selling point for me Cool vibes. Cool music. But gameplay that sinks fast and never really floats. As it currently stands, this game is in early access and needs work. Until that work is done, I can’t recommend it. Needs some polishing up but realy cool concept, AI descloser does not influance my opinon of the game and don't take away the fact that is a good work in progress. I would take out the Pirate faction for now (Lack of animation) and generic models, don't leave a good impression, in my opinion

Oustanding, but truly - "only", if this artwork gets a chess mode..

It's chess, but alternative pieces, 3D rendered game pieces, and you replace checkmate with getting to the other side of the board. I feel like the game focuses too much on having fancy 3D pieces going around the board and looking at the map a cinimatic angle to overview an epic battlefield, and doesnt focus enough on having a smooth clean gameplay look and feel

Clash of the Kingdoms is a simple turn based strategy game that I ended up enjoying more than I expected. The whole game is built around battles on a small 7 by 7 board, with each side controlling an army of unique warriors. I can win by destroying the enemy army or by capturing their fortress, so I always have to think about whether I should focus on attacking or try to take control of the battlefield instead. I like how quickly I can understand the basic idea, because I can get into a match without spending ages learning complicated systems. The small board is what makes the battles interesting for me. There is not much space to waste, so every movement can have a noticeable effect on what happens next. Once I move a unit, I have to live with that decision, which makes me think ahead instead of constantly changing my mind. I enjoyed trying to position my army properly and looking for opportunities to attack while also making sure I was not leaving my own fortress too exposed. The matches are also designed to be fairly short, which makes it easy for me to play a few battles without committing to a huge session. I also like the way the units are presented. Neutral rating. I will recommend this game is a chess mode were added and cleaner and smoother rendering I would give it a positive review. But as it stands for a free game I enjoyed it and wanted to try again after I learned it was first to cross the board, which I did but didn't win because I guess it depends which piece.
