Conquer

It's the game I put on when I want to play something for two minutes and then go, Nah I think I'll just go and sit in the sunshine and drink a whole lot of beers. Its the Wife has been on my back to stop playing games in VR and spend some time with those two little ♥♥♥♥♥ who call me dad game. You know the game that annoys you enough in two minutes you don't feel like loading anything else and just want a break.

Conquer is a pretty classic action adventure game; Choose one of three weapons and swathe your way through hordes of enemies against a fantasy backdrop. On the surface it has a lot of ingredients that should make this a great game, but this melee game has one fatal flaw: It doesn’t do melee well. Depending on whether you choose a ranged or melee weapon will of course dramatically change the tactics involved with how you engage your enemies, but I particularly want to highlight the sword mechanics. Melee suffers greatly from the good old wiggle exploit and honestly enemies are thrown at you so frequently, in vast numbers and are such health sponges that if you try swing your sword realistically, you’ll find it is not an efficient or effective way of fighting. So,with the incentive to actually not swing your sword fully, I found myself, sadly, wiggling my way through the game. To add insult to injury, the weapons are wildly oversized, so combined with the fact they feel so weightless, it really doesn’t feel good at all. Funny enough, there’s special move your character can do which slows down time and lets you slice and dice enemies, very similar to Metal Gear Rising. This mechanic …

An overall great game, but the hit detection is so wonky. It's a short journey and you have only one weapon. Beating the game with a certain highscore will unlock the locked weapons. Doing counterattack kills and ultimate kills will give you a lot of points. The overall atmosphere and animation is polished and immersive so it's still a great game if you get used to the combat.

Boring. Wiggle the controller sword at stuff to kill it. There does not appear to be blocking or much further to do in this game.

Looks and plays like a fantasy VR gamers dream. This is a VR must-have.

Really? No normal locomotion and just normal turning witht the rift analog stick?
