**Gentle spoiler warning and trigger warning for discussion of disordered eating** Man, I really loved this game. For most of the experience it feels like a total masterpiece — the pacing, the tension, the way every new stressor folds into the mechanics. It’s so well done that by the end I was feeling the stress in my own body. Jenny’s [spoiler]under‑eating, the headaches, the way studying becomes impossible, the stats cratering no matter what I tried… I ended up making her exercise two or three times a day because it was the only way to keep things from falling apart.[/spoiler] The religion storyline was another interesting thread. My read was that it was just one more way Jenny [spoiler]avoids dealing with how badly she’s hurting herself — another distraction, another coping mechanism layered on top of the dieting and over‑exercising.[/spoiler] But then the ending hits, and none of that seems to matter. [spoiler]When Jenny finally crashes out, it has little to do with under-eating, the compulsively exercising, or using religion to prop up her self-harm. [/spoiler]The last chunk of gameplay, where everything is spiralling and the player is fully complicit, ends up feeling weird…

"I'm Jenny, smart, responsible, well-read, athletic, health-conscious, exceeded all my goals and got A++ for everything, but I absolutely have to date this loser boyfriend and all my life goals revolve around him. When he doesn't want me, my whole life is worthless and Jesus is my only hope." Do we really need this kind of narrative in 2026, where women consume their life pleasing men, competing with other women and living up to expectations from everyone but herself? This is a mixed review - I did not give a negative rating because the game play is so fun and addictive, exactly the type of stats raising sim game I always love. HOWEVER I have a HUGE problem with the story, which is really really frustrating. With all these interactive elements, mini-games and stat-raising goals, you'd think it is a "choose your adventure" game and you can achieve different endings based on your stats/choices. But no, you do NOT have a choice in how the story progresses and what type of person you will become. You are forced to play out someone else's story, and the story is not a pleasant one at all. You CANNOT at any point in the game choose to dump the boyfriend or stop working on the relat…

Hating yourself has never had so much mechanical depth. I fell in love with this game, and it quickly has become one of my favorite short games of all time. A 10/10 from me, and I recommend it to anyone who has watched the trailer and found the tone charming. It's absolutely worth it. The game feels like it was made for me. I love gameplay variety, so a wario-ware style game that is all minigames and managing simulation was exactly what I needed. No minigame felt like it overstayed its welcome in the gameplay loop, and each one makes you feel like you can slowly get better at it. The managing aspect of the game has an incredibly smooth learning curve, where at first you feel like you're getting the hang of it and by the last level of the game you put everything you've learned into practice, and it truly feels like a final boss of sorts. For me personally the difficulty level both mechanically and strategically felt just right, not too easy, not too hard. The story itself is both poignant and adorable, with some moments that actually made me laugh out loud, not just the first time but the second time through to get the achievements.
