Consume Me

To be clear I understand this is an autobiographical work and its based on someone's real life but I cannot recommend people play this and I'm really sad about that. Mostly because if I had a friend who were struggling with these issues or other self-worth or mental issues, I would in no way recommend that they engage with religion to solve them or even to feel better about them. I think that can easily result in a harmful mindset where people who are looking for validation from others turn instead to getting validation from religion instead of finding it for themselves and accepting themselves. And for that reason, I can't recommend it. If you don't mind that aspect and just want to experience the good music, fantastic art, and decent game systems, I'd recommend this. I think it was worth a look but ultimately didn't connect with me the way I wanted but I hope it can help more people than this mindset hurts.

As someone who went through anorexia and a lot of low-self esteem as a teenager, this is wildly accurate. I was scared by how real the game felt. I honestly never realized, until playing Consume Me, that probably one of the reasons why I was good at being an over-achiever and trying to juggle so many things as a teen was because of how much I gamified completing certain goals, just like Jenny. I haven't finished the game, and I think part of it is because it might become too triggering for me. But damn, I am so grateful games like this exist. Huge shout out to the devs for putting this out into the world.

the gameplay immediately sucked me in, I love story interactive games like that but honestly the major bit of it (the food block puzzle) I didn't like at all. these type of fill in the blank puzzles just aren't my cup of tea so it sucks a bit I did appreciate the fact it was autobiography, I don't get to play those a lot and including IRL pictures in the credits was a really nice touch to me. I didn't understand the drama about the religious side of it although I didn't personally like it, I found it weird if anything... like texting Jesus? and the montage in the church was very... anticlimactic to the chaotic chapter I really didn't like it toward the end round chapter 5, studying only gives 5 points? and an annoying side quest of her getting a nerf that you need to make disappear is super annoying. and i found it even more annoying that I put a lot of effort trying to complete the chapter for it to crumble apart toward the end when Oliver breaks up with her

man this genuinely felt like my own experience growing up (minus the religion providing some relief, so I was just rawdogging it) - it's a very good narrative game with fun mini-games and I love the visuals and the music. It did crash once or twice on the Mac but otherwise it was pretty smooth.
