Cthulhu Saves Christmas

Good game. Pretty fun fun. It plays kind of like Pokemon, looks good for a 2D RPG, and Cthulhu saving Christmas is exactly as charming as it sounds with a unique twist. There are cat ears in this game. I saw them in the item list and my heart soared. I thought: finally. Cthulhu, ancient eldritch abomination, wearing little cat ears on his 2D sprite. That's the content I'm here for. Turns out, they're a battle item. You use them to charm an enemy. That's it. They don't break, they are just a constant reminder of pure sadness. The developers hand-drew a whole game and not one frame of Cthulhu in cat ears exists anywhere in it. I'm not angry. Just disappointed ;( Still, good game. Would recommend.

Cthuluhu Saves Christmas feels like 1 step forward and 2 steps back compared to Cthulhu saves the world, in the sense that yes, the graphics are improved and looks much better, the world is more detailed, the characters, the combat animations however it falls short when it comes to being as engaging as Saves the world, the world map although more detailed graphically is lacking the traversal mechanics from the previous game, the combat looks pretty but at times it feels like just a throwing hits at spongy enemies for the sake of it and it also has a poor dmg indicator, atleast the addition of improved itemization and spells made combat less boring. I played on PC and the key-bindings were a mess no matter what options you try. Overall its an ok short game but Cthulhu Saves The World is superior at the moment.

This was such an enjoyable bite-sized RPG! I loved the humor and the character designs. Not to mention the fact that it was exactly what I was looking for to kill a small block of time in my day. The gameplay was fun and interesting too with the one-time use skill mechanic, without ever becoming overwhelming (which stuff like that tends to make me fear). Also grateful that all achievements can be gotten on any difficulty. Great for casuals or sweats alike. I'm totally recommending it to my friends. Probably gifting it a few times as well so everyone has the chance to give this a try!

A prequel to CSTW with none of the characters from CSTW, less game, and less effort. It feels like they completely forgot what made the original game good. I don't mind the combat changes that much, but it doesn't even feel like the same world. Replace Cthulhu with a generic character or "bad guy" and this game wouldn't be any different. Definitely not for any fans of CSTW.
