Being a match-3 games, Curses of Tarot is amusingly refreshing. There are three modes: timed, endurance and standard. In any mode, the goal of the game is to play away as many cards as you can but at least your given deck (as you cannot unlock the next level otherwise) and leaving as many empty spaces on the board as possible each round, especially on the lower rows as they are worth more points. You start with a number of cards in your deck. Each round, a card is being added. Hand combos cannot be made. The game takes the highest hand. When you have no more option to act, the game is over. You get rewarded with ducats and the better you play, the more karma you get. Timed mode is the most simple one without any special cards. You just have to score as much as possible within 10 minutes. Endurance includes 'block cards'. You can swap those cards but you can only play them away by moving them to the bottom row where they disappear. Each round, apart from an extra card in your deck as usual, a block card is added making it harder to create hands. As from level 10, a 'freeze card' is added. This card cannot be swapped. Standard mode is the most …

It's a pretty straightforward card game where you have a deck that is affected by your skill and karma. As the game progresses it gets harder as you'll likely end up getting cursed in various ways, and your deck might get tainted by mean cards as well. The game has a great atmosphere and soundscape. It is highly addictive and I love the feeling of playing against some evil witch that just wishes to make my life a living hell. I usually perish within 15 minutes, and I end up getting stuck on a "just one more time" repeat. If you are looking for a quick and casual game to relax with, this is it.

This is a really great casual card game! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something to play that doesn't require hyper focus. You just have to make partial poker hands (pair or more of a kind, a straight with 3 or more cards, a flush with 3 or more like suits) until your deck is empty. This is pretty easy at first, but the game quickly adds in "curses" that are basically obstacles to prevent some of these combinations. Some of these curses apply to the entire round. Others only until you get them to the bottom of the board. You do sometimes get "boon" cards with special powers, such as removing all of a single suit. I'll leave the gameplay details at that, as I think it's more fun to figure the rest out as you go. The one thing about it that may frustrate some people is that as the game progresses further (especially when you get 10+ rounds deep in a game), a lot of luck is involved. The wrong combination of curses can lead to losing the game after 1-2 moves. But I personally enjoy RNG game elements, so I accept when games end and just cross my fingers during the next one. :)

This is a fine game to pass the time, and a refreshing take on the match-3 genre.

It is an interesting twist to the Match 3 genre. In here you don't need to match only colors but you also can match cards in poker sequences like pairs (two of the same number), straights (consecutive numbers) etc. To add more challenge, there are some curses that forbid different poker matches and also some mandatory random boom / restrict cards picks. The music is eerie and fits the game perfectly.

Random curses, and random boons, is Lady Luck on your side, or is she going to garrote you with your own innards? I know the answer to that question...now...
