I'm honestly really surprised by how much I enjoyed this game. I've never played one of these interaction fiction games, but after finishing it I'm definitely interested in trying out more. I'll go over some of my personal positives and negatives for the people on the fence.
Positives

Surprisingly in-depth character customization, both with your physical appearance as well as you powers and backgrounds. You start off with a selection of story origins pretty similar to Cyberpunk, like CEO or a factory worker. Unlike Cyberpunk, these stories aren't just isolated to a prologue, they run in parallel to the main plot. For example, my character worked at an IT company as their "normal" life. After superhero shenanigans in the night, my character spent their day dealing with their work and the stress that comes with living two different lives, with characters from that storyline becoming a part of the supporting cast for the player. I've only finished one playthrough so far (which was somewhere in the 20-30 chapters range) so I can't say how different the other origins are, but mine felt natural enough that I'm sure the other storylines are as substantial. I thought this would be an easy recommend as nearly every game in this genre from CoG or Hosted Games I have loved; while it has the bones to be an amazing game it gets tripped up by frequent and jarring point of view switches from the MC to characters that sometimes haven't even been introduced yet. The MCs POV is first person and then suddenly a few pages later we're in third person with someone else's point of view only to switch back to the MC and have them state an opinion we have no control over. This constant switch away from the MC completely lost immersion for me and at one point made me not care about the MC anymore. There are also a lot of characters--great when done well, cumbersome when not. Unfortunately as another reviewer mentioned, a lot of characters aren't described well and aside from names and motives are hard to keep track of. Then there are the grammatical errors; usually I don't care but they were so frequent I could tell the writer may not have a full grasp on when it sounds natural to use and when not to use a contraction (specifically "I'm") in dialogue. I give this a very hesitant and tentative recommend because it pains me to otherwise thumbs this game …2 found this helpful

Dawn of Heroes from Hosted Games is a text-driven superhero role-playing experience that places nearly all of its weight on narrative depth and player choice rather than traditional gameplay systems. It invites players into a world where ordinary individuals suddenly gain extraordinary powers, and instead of guiding you through that premise with visuals or action mechanics, it relies entirely on written storytelling to build immersion. This approach immediately defines the game’s identity, as it feels closer to a massive interactive novel than a conventional RPG, demanding imagination and engagement from the player in exchange for a highly personalized journey. One of the most striking aspects of Dawn of Heroes is the sheer breadth of customization available. From the outset, players are given control over their character’s identity, background, and moral outlook, along with the specific nature of their powers. The system allows for a surprising amount of flexibility, letting you shape not only what your abilities are but also how they function, often through trade-offs and enhancements that give them a unique flavor. This design encourages experimentation, making each playthrough…1 found this helpful
Edited to change to a tentative thumbs up after finishing a play through. Well, I slogged through after using the mode that lets you build a custom character. The game is playable. Not preachy. Nothing great here either though. Buy it on sale if you like superhero origin stories. Not worth full price unless you just have stupid money and nothing else to do with it. ~~~~ Original thumbs down review after 7 hours in "story mode" ~~~~ This is a tough call. All of the complaints about the text are right on the money. Except the AI accusation. The worst AI would have generated better prose. But on the plus side, this game (while full of the normal woke jank) doesn't waste your time preaching wokeness at you. I'm seven hours in, because the story is interesting enough to override the irritation over the bad writing, at least for a few hours at a time. But now I'm hung up on what seems to be a bug. In story mode, my character's injuries are invalidating my character's power. This is as designed, apparently. But the fact that my character's injuries don't seem to heal is becoming an ever increasing problem. And that seems to be broken. I don't want to replay this g…
The game so far is really good; the story is unravelling in a good manner, not too fast nor too slow. There are some issues, like some abrupt changes of scenery that make it quite confusing sometimes. The only thing that throws me off balance is the lack of a daily life aside from work and hero stuff. In general, it's a great game that has some flaws but does not disappoint.
