About Dead End City

Dead End City is a post-apocalyptic vertical shooter. You drive a heavily armed car (called a Chariot) into the wastelands to rescue your loved ones from Scorpio, a gang that has conquered what is left of humanity. Fuel is always draining away, so be careful to collect as much as you can or your journey will come to abrupt end. Relive the thrill of 90's arcade shooters.

Key Features:

  • Topoff Mode - collect enough fuel to overfill your tank and your normal shot powers up. Hitting enemies during Topoff builds your score multiplier.
  • Sub Weapons - Collect ammo to unleash your sub weapon and tear through enemies, spawn pickup items and build your score.
  • Arcade Mode - 5 areas to conquer. Each area includes a road section, a stronghold and a boss.
  • Score Attack Mode - practice playing each territory to hone your skills and your score.
  • Leaderboards - Local offline and Steam Leaderboards for each character type and mode.
  • Unlockables - Each play earns Shop Points that can be used to unlock extras.

Plot

Civilization has fallen and the few remaining survivors are now the playthings of a gang of post-apocalyptic punks called Scorpio. Your little slice of heaven was raided and your loved ones carried off to Scorpio's main stronghold. With nothing left to lose, you head out onto the open road, armed to the teeth and ready to fight through their territory to bring an end to their reign.

✦ AI summary

Dead End City is praised for its old-school bullet hell design that emphasizes aiming and strategy over pure dodging, with varied level sections, challenging but fun boss fights, and distinctive post-apocalyptic art direction. However, players note the punishing difficulty with no lives or checkpoints, constant health depletion, and limited progression, with the $20 price point feeling steep relative to content—though fans suggest waiting for a sale. Overall, it's recommended for those who enjoy retro-style, skill-based shooters despite its demanding nature.

There are so many (great) bullet hell shmups on Steam, so it's nice to play something with a more old school feel. In Dead End City, your hitbox is big and your attack is narrow and not that powerful. You have to aim your shots somewhat instead of focusing purely on dodging. The levels are divided into 3 sections which each play a little differently. That provides some nice variety. I like that the bosses have difficult patterns but go down fast. They are lots of fun. The art and presentation of this game is cool and a nice change of pace from all the spaceship shmups out there. The game has tate mode (for vertical format monitors). It plays nice with my Sega Saturn USB pad too.

A pretty sweet vertical shoot em up game with callbacks to Space Invaders and a Mad Max style presentation.

This is not an ease game. Their are no "lives" like in other old school shooters like this. No check points. You die, game over, start back at the beginning, 00000 permanent progression. Your health bar constantly deplete's and you need fuel which drops from enemies. Their are unlockable characters, but you need to beat bosses without taking a hit to unlock them. Dont know if they are better then the default character, so cant say much about them. Im giving this a thumbs up because i personally like the game and do enjoy playing it despite my lack time clocked into it. The default price of 20 bucks after taxes where i am is a bit much ill admit for the content, guessing its 14.99 american, so what, 16/17 bucks after taxes im guessing. Best to wait for a sale in my opinion. 100% though you will very easily find out if this game is for you before the 2h refund window expire's, so your money is safe in the event you find this game is not for you. Fair warning though, the game has the "profile feature's limited" tag, which means the game has not sold enough copies to show off steam achievements on your profile and it wont register as one of your "games" in you games tab on your profi…
