About Death Machine

Rejecting the dogmatic vision of the machine and its endless production, you are cast down into darkness. But in the darkness, a bargain is struck with a foe of old. Ascend the machine citadel with eyes open, and bring a reckoning upon those who ruined the world before it was all iron, blood, and bones.

Explore the machine citadel, find secret paths to hidden chambers, and establish a foothold in the belly of the machine. Return to a Sanctuary with your plundered skulls to discover new and unusual items. Or instead, set your sights on conquest, assemble a clutch of potent items, and risk it all against the monstrous denizens that lurk in the dark corners of the citadel. But beware, your mayhem in defiance of the machine will not go unnoticed - enemies assembled to defeat you will grow in potency and number the longer you wreak havoc.

Death Machine mixes the wonder of classic metroidvania exploration, with exciting combat powered by a versatile roguelite item system. Each run, you can choose to focus on exploration - discovering new items and powers, hoarding skulls taken from your enemies, and making it back to take to a Sanctuary to cash in your loot with your patron.

Use the spoils of your exploration to concoct mighty builds, letting you go toe to toe with the most dangerous residents of the citadel. Careful consideration when crafting your build will help you unlock certain pathways not accessible otherwise. Diverse builds will also let you wield potent hybrid items, bridging the mechanics of two elements together.

I could not make much progress in the 7 hours that I played, I had maybe 50 different technical issues ranging from small bugs and movement polish to potentially game breaking problems like menu locks, movement locks, getting outside of the map, as well as severe issues with backtracking design, optimization, and enemy spawn logic, potentially adding hours and hours of artificial difficulty. The game is somewhat playable for the first 2 hours, but it gets much worse in my experience. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3642137205 (In this image I killed the boss, but the end of the fight did not trigger, funny thing I was also damage immune due to a different bug. Various softlocks and progression bugs like that are not uncommon here. I also have no access to some parts of the map because some bosses respawn and lock your camera to that area) Something that I find interesting, if you look at the negative reviews, many people gave up 30 minutes in based on the movement being stiff, so that alone was too much for some players, and that is only 1 of dozens of major issues that I have with the game. Also I see posts from like 2024 mentioning these things, and they…

genuinely love so much about this game, but the high amount of enemies hoarding on u pretty fast and the inability to revisit shrines combined with all the bugs in it right now make me not want to play much. I still do believe this game will be one of my favourites when its been polished though, and I hope you keep going despite all the negative reviews cause the game is genuinely amazing. btw the art is so pretty omg

Really enjoyed playing this game so far. The art style and music/sound effects are amazing! Everything was done with a lot of intention and is thoughtfully designed. A feat, especially considering this is a solo-dev game. The level of polish and dark atmosphere is evident to the start. It's definitely difficult, but it feels fair rather than frustrating. Looking forward to getting more into the story and gameplay as I continue to play.

This game is pretty sick! It's fun and has really good bones. Can't wait to get deeper into it. I think the controls need a bit of work but once that gets polished up it'll be really solid!

I can't really see what is happening in this game. The combination of the visual style and the overall darkness means this is visually kind of a mess. Seems cool otherwise but feels basically unplayable to me.
