I will overall give the game a thumbs up, but a very guarded recommendation. "DEATH PIT EXPLORER" is a 6-DOF precision flight game about exploring a death pit. I was pretty sure of this going in, but it bares mentioning given the lack of description in any marketing materials. However, I would consider the closest analog to be "Iron Lung" in terms of apparent intention. Control: The primary meaning of "difficult controls" seems to be the keyboard only control scheme, and the inability to rebind any keys. Secondarily, once you start playing, is the lack of any sort of centering or direct momentum stopping key as many 6-DOF games will have. To stop your movement, you must counteract your momentum with thrust in the opposite direction. This I would consider relatively neutral to somewhat interesting, as this is the primary difficulty source for the game. The biggest issue I have is the decision to put thrust on the arrow keys plus shift and space. Having movement on WASD but still keeping rotation on Q and E is fairly typical, and I think putting camera on UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT keys would be a little less irritating. Interesting control schemes are fun! However the exact choice of ke…3 found this helpful
Was hoping I’d found a hidden gem, but this is just a five dollar motion sickness simulator. The map is full of holes that lead out of bounds, only there’s no indication that you’re on the wrong path until you actually get there, by which point it’s already too late. Staying on the main path, you may die to frame drops from the next area loading in, jank hitboxes on random surfaces, or your power just dropping to zero for literally no reason whatsoever (I thought I just wasn’t paying close enough attention to the meter, but upon reviewing some footage, there’s a clip where I drop directly from eight-hundred to zero in the middle of an open corridor). If you manage to make it through in spite of all that, there’s still a chance that the next area just won’t load in, so you’ll have to restart the game anyway. Granted none of this happens and you make it to the bottom, your reward is a fight with The Bed Of Chaos. Failing a run always felt like a fault of the game rather than a skill issue on my part, and for that reason, I do not recommend this game.1 found this helpful
