I picked this up as an alternative to Slay the Spire 2 because of its theme and beautiful art style. I really like the story element and the inspiration it takes from Slavic folklore. The game plays well overall, but some characters feel much easier than others. It also offers some unique mechanics, like delaying boss fights and battling multiple main-story bosses to collect special relics for the final fight with Koschey the Deathless, which does take a while to unlock.1 found this helpful
Easily ene of the best deckbuilders I've ever played! Beautiful visual style, smart worldbuilding based on slavic mythology and four unique playable characters. It is not easy, so prepare for a challenge. But it is totally worth it!
I wasn't sure what I was going to get with this game, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's solid. If you like Slay the Spire, this has a lot in common with it. It also has some interesting new mechanics, which can be confusing until you learn them. For example, monsters that you "defeat" stay on the battlefield and block you from attacking living enemies and block melee attacks from enemies. Enemy positioning is a critical strategy in this game too. Pros: * Solid gameplay with interesting mechanics * You can see the rewards you get from each encounter and choose accordingly * Encounters have modifiers which makes the "direction" choice more interesting * You can postpone regular boss fights until it is convenient, but they will get stronger if you wait * Interesting and unique lore * The art and attack animations are nice bonuses * Each character plays differently, leading to a lot of replay value Areas for Improvement: * There are a lot of new mechanics that require a few playthroughs to understand * It would be very nice if the right mouse click would cancel a card drag instead of doing nothing * You must play the game at full resolution in order to have readable tooltips and …
Its a fun tactical card rogue game with great combat and bosses it reminds me of darkest dungeon
Very Solid Card Battler Deathless; Hero Quest is a welcome addition to the higher echelon of card battlers. The game delivers the basics of the genre well and does a good job of weaving the roguelike elements into the game while still allowing the player to make some tough route decisions. Strong play style variety exists between the 4 selectable characters. Furthermore, the variety continues to the bosses which are distinctly different in terms of tactics they try to use against the player; especially true for the “legendary” bosses and final. Difficulty really ramps up on these bosses and the final boss definitely pushes your deck to the limit which can be a bit jarring the first few times around. Player agency remains high with good ability to control what cards get added/removed/upgraded in your deck. However, above avg. rate cards in each character’s card pools are fairly limited; leading to some narrow selection choices. Visually, there is a nice variety of enemies you’ll encounter on a run. A few of the animations are a little stiff and lacking in my opinion, they are still ok but I think they could have been better. Overall, this one is definite…
I absolutely love this game!! The art style is sureal and so amazing. The effects and attacks and visuals is just so addictive. What a pure pleasure to play , i hope they add evil bosses or villians we can play at later stage they look so bad ass.
