DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue

7.5/10 [h3] “Goodbye, DeathSpank.” [/h3] Let’s get straight to it: this isn’t a bad game. Back in its day, it even felt pretty distinctive. But as a sequel to [i] DeathSpank [/i], it falls short. My “Not Recommended” isn’t coming from spite—it’s coming from a very real sense of regret. [i] This could have been so much better [/i]. I genuinely liked the original [i] DeathSpank [/i]. It was a remarkably [i] pure [/i] experience: low-budget ARPG mechanics paired with dense, deconstructive humor. It didn’t try to tell some grand story or build an elaborate world. Instead, it leaned into a straight-faced knightly tone while constantly delivering mundane nonsense and absurd logic, creating a sharp and deliberate contrast. The humor wasn’t forced—it grew organically from the structure itself, even carrying a faint touch of gentle existentialism. And importantly, it knew when to stop. At around 10 hours, it wrapped up [i] right before [/i] the gameplay wore thin—which made all the difference. With [i] Thongs of Virtue [/i], that balance starts to unravel. After 4 hours of gaming, my save file is corrupted and I can't play this game anymore

Another romp of misadventure through a kingdom to bring about the second coming of justice. Art style and humour are still quite fun. Would recommend if you were a fan of the first. Game length can feel a little dragged out as there are obstacles constantly coming up thwarting you crusade, but that is part of the humour.

Don't get me wrong, the game's funny and a fun time, but this is my 2nd time trying to beat this game and my save corrupted again and I cannot load my save without the game crashing -- which is funny because I now have 2 corrupted save files in my game. Unfortunately this game received a terrible port and the devs don't care to fix these bugs. Do yourself a favor and just play the first game and forget about the sequels.

Soooo. When I went to launch it initially, it crashed. No big. After an hour of game play, it crashed. The game doesn't appear to be imported very well. When I have it in full screen, if I switch windows it makes every other window on my PC spaz out. I put it on window mode but it doesn't even have the standard screen resolution as an option. Battle is weird, you have to click on the actual enemy to hit them, not proximity. It doesn't work at all with xbox controller even though the store page says it should at least partially. Like it full on doesn't recognize the controller. All in all, a very amusing game but I wouldn't recommend it strictly based on the glitches, crashes and poor import. =(
