Decked Out (TurtleFox Games)

I have no idea how this game has flown so far under the radar, especially given how much Talented blew up, because this is PHENOMENAL. I absolutely loved Talented but after a few runs I think I prefer this. The town is a nice addition, especially since the timing of the upgrades has decent tactical impact, so it's not just about what benefits you right now. The main appeal to me though is the amount of depth in the build-craft, and it's REALLY satisfying to see your build come together. I've only played a couple of runs since the early access launched (played a bunch in the demo) but already I've seen some really interesting synergies. Like there's an item which increases your basic attack rate with each card you play, so I spent the whole run with a super tiny deck, never really buying cards, just aggressively making things as cheap as possible and grabbing anything that made me draw faster - and with a small deck that became very dependable. I then hoarded all my gold for a legendary lance card that returns to your hand after being played, then the game became spamming mana regen and that lance card until my basic attack looked like an M61 Vulcan minigun... glorious! As of now... solid bones, and since these developers have been very consistent over the years with upgrading and patching their content consistently enough that they've definitely earned the benefit of the doubt. For the price, it's going to be worth your money. For sure. It's not a perfect game. Early on, it's got the same unlucky frustrations as Talented, just watching yourself get smacked by things you can't do anything else about. But the game doesn't seem afraid of letting you have fun getting OP either, so that makes the wins that bit more rewarding. Solid flow. I personally like a bit of grindy. Same aesthetic you already know you like, if you came from Talented. Easy 8/10

I like the concept of the game, the base that keeps upgrading, facing waves as you get stronger is satisfying . Its a simple game, and it works. For the price getting a few hours of playtime is worth it. Difficulty wise, game is really easy once you see how to beat it, even at higher difficulty. I only now at Difficulty 30 started to struggle. The first few levels are the hard ones until you upgrade enough that you just blast everything on screen. The reason is that there is very little on the enemies that force you to think about your choices, the enemies are just "targets" so there is very little planning, just break through any line, and go ham. I played a few times, and I think I don't have a reason to keep playing much more. There is so much possible depth and combos in the cards, but the gameplay just rewards breaking and spamming.

Real fun and different kind of game. Use cards to fight off enemies each night and buy/upgrade afterwards. Simple and addictive. Only complaint is that harder difficulties is really just about getting lucky with artifacts and cards than real skill. For the low price, it's worth it though. Really love the retro art style too. I would recommend it.

With how much fun I had with Talented, picking this game up was a no-brainer and I'm not disappointed in the slightest. Though very much still in the early stages, there's enough here to really sink your teeth into and find some satisfyingly overpowered builds while still providing quite a challenge. The tower-defense-esque real time card combat is fairly intuitive, especially with being able to use number keys to rapidly fire off what's in your hand. It's hard to go wrong with this solid foundation of a game, and you need only look to Talented to know they're capable of delivering a real gem in the long term.
