About Deus Novum

✦ AI summary

Lead a newborn god commanding a creature avatar to reclaim three islands from evil by casting miracles, training your beast companion, and expanding villages through prayer and power. Build elaborate settlements, unlock devastating spells, and shape your creature's personality through reinforcement as you battle to restore humanity's world.

Deus Novum is the god game you've been waiting for. Cast miracles with the power of your villager's prayer, train your creature to behave or misbehave, build elaborate villages, and fight back against the forces of evil.

You are a new god born into a two worlds. You are born into the world of the gods. At the same time, your creature is born into the world of the mortals. Your creature is your avatar in the mortal world, and inside of them is your crystal. Your crystal is your connection to the world of man. You are not the only god living, for a god cannot be killed. However, all of the other gods have long since lost their connection to the mortal world at the hands of evil. With their guidance, it's up to you to take back the world for humanity one island at a time!

Convert villages to gain skill points which can be used to unlock miracles!

  • Start each island with one village and expand to control the entire map!
  • Convert human villages by impressing them or "removing" them.
  • Destroy evil villages and take them over to create new human villages.
  • Watch out! Evil villagers will try to take your village from you if you look weak.

Cast powerful miracles and teach them to your creature!

  • Storm, Fireball, Lightning, Summon Lava Golem, and many more miracles are waiting to be unlocked!
  • Gain power to cast miracles by having villagers worship you or by sacrificing flora, fauna, or even your villagers.
  • Teach your creature to cast miracles. By watching you cast miracles, your creature will slowly learn how to cast the miracle.

Choose your creature!

  • Choose between Ape, Panther, Turtle and Bear.
  • Select their skin/fur and eye colors!
  • Each creature has a different personality.

Train your creature!

  • Your creature starts out clueless, but they can learn! By watching your behavior and reinforcing their behavior with pets or punishment, your creature will learn how they should interact with the world. Train your creature to eat goblins, cast miracles, help your villagers, and more!
  • With the leash, you can take direct control of your creature and command him to move, pick things up, or fight.

Visit three islands and take them back for humanity! (6-8 hours of gameplay)

  • Orsus: The island of beginning.
  • Rota: Tropical island with an evil creature
  • Crag Peak: A large island stronghold of the evil empire

Rebuild the world!

  • With the help of your villagers you can restore your villages. Build houses, schools, altars and more to make your villages grow.
  • Use conduits to channel prayer power to power certain buildings

Defend against evil!

  • Enemies will launch attacks on adjacent villages. They kidnap children, burn fields and storehouses, destroy buildings, and more.
  • Evil creatures will join these attacks bringing an even larger challenge

Ever wish they made a Black and White 3? Me too! Come relive some of that old nostalgia with me as Black and White gets re-imagined. It’s currently in early access but in just the couple days I’ve been playing it there has been a ton of progress. I’ve seen bugs patched within minutes of being reported which is impressive because there is only one developer (join the discord with us).

This game is the closest thing to a spiritual successor to the Black and White series I've found so far. I absolutely loved those games, and played them constantly as a kid. Deus Novum is still in a pretty rough state, in my opinion. The animations and textures are very barebones, and the game isn't at all what I would call stable. That being said, the developer is extremely good at communicating and working with the community on bugs, and seems very dedicated to continuing development until the game is finished. This hasn't really made as much progress as I had hoped. The last update was 6 months ago, and the game is still no where close to as good as Black and White was.

It's enjoyable the same way the movie 'the room' is enjoyable. It is very nice to see another attempt at the Black & White formula. All of the mechanical implementations are fair for a starting point. I think since they've changed the way worship sites worked, that whole implementation should be its own quest. I like that you can access all of your miracles from a radial menu. Several of the mechanics that are working from what we remember about black & white, but all of them are barely working and a little jank. I wish it was more clear how repopulating a village works. I never felt that I was able to adequately take charge of what my creature was learning and interactions with the creature and the world at large feel stiff generally. I never figured out how to leave the first world, if it's not possible it would have been good to learn that through some prompt. I wish you could close any open menus by hitting escape one time. The bookmark placement and travel system is missing but I hope not forever. I wish I could click anywhere on the npc dialog box to skip to the next one. The save load and start new game systems aren't where I need them to be to use them easily. I want to b…

I can't properly test it because of the bad performance. :( (High CPU & GPU usage) Edit: Sadly still a laggy experience at minimal settings. :(

Deus Novum is an indie spiritual successor of the original Black and White franchise. The God game genre is one of the less explored genres in modern gaming, so it is a breath of fresh air to see how the genre has evolved and taken inspiration from modern sources. Deus Novum takes inspiration from more recent titles like Rimworld, Banished, and other colony management sims for a more in depth and streamlined experience. The building block feature allows for more unique and customized builds than the original series, allowing you to build a grand temple tailor made to your liking. As you develop your worshiper's humble village into a bustling metropolis, you will find yourself under constant threat of an enemy faction who will relentlessly send their forces to burn your crops, slaughter your people in droves, and kidnap your children so that they may transform them into members of their ranks. Luckily, you are armed with a creative skill tree full of miracles that you may cast upon your foes or teach to your creature, another feature inspired from the original Black and White. Your creature will be your companion from the very beginning, where you will work to train them and enforce…
