Directory Dungeon is a tiny dungeon crawler played right in the windows file explorer.Explore a monster and loot filled dungeon by dragging and dropping your player folder into new rooms, equip powerful items by dropping them into your equipment folder, and defeat terrible monsters in auto-resolved combat.
No generative AI was used at any point in the creation of this game.
Features!
- Play the game in the windows file explorer and console window! Think of the file explorer as the playing pieces of the game and the console window as the dungeon master keeping track of everything.
- Explore the dungeon by dragging and dropping your player into a new room, or just cutting and pasting them there.
- Fight and defeat terrible monsters! And then loot their folders!
- Arm and armour yourself with the loot you find throughout the dungeon, by dropping it into your equipment folder.
- Enjoy a tasty cabbage, or other dungeon treats, to refresh yourself between fights!
- Figure out the secret to banishing evil from the dungeon forever!
Is this doing anything weird to my PC?
Nope! Directory Dungeon only ever touches files which it has created, never looks at files outside of its install directory, and doesn't use any weird file system hacks. Check out the FAQ in the Steam Discussions for more info!No generative AI was used at any point in the creation of this game.

Great little game! It had me busting out the graph paper and pens for map making. This is short but simple and repayable as hell. The fact that you actually play in your windows browser is a fun spin on dungeon crawling. Your literally move through folder directories. I would love to see the Dev's revisit this title in the future with more content.2 found this helpful
Very fun concept. Pretty short, it took me about 1.5h I got stuck at several places and but it would have probably taken less then one hour if i wasn't slightly distracted in conversation while playing.1 found this helpful
A small dungeon crawler played via file directory. Not a fake one that exists for the games purposes, but in a set of folders placed in your own hard drive. An incredibly creative concept, if feeling more like a proof of concept than the idea taken to its fullest potential. There's definitely an optimization to be made with moving things about, and there feels like a lot of ground left untread in this short experience (counting playing the demo, I probably spent about an hour with this game), but what is here is fun silly, and has some room for... creative solutions.1 found this helpful
After only 15 minutes of playing, I think this is one of the most unique videogames I've ever played. The entire game is played entirely in your file explorer, but a separate text tab opens that actively narrates and describes the events around you similar to a traditional text adventure. It's genuinely genius how it uses your file explorer to the fullest. Need to eat a cabbage? Delete it. Need to equip an item? Place it in the folder representing your player. It's a lot more intuitive than it initially seems along with being chock full of personality and secrets. It really clicked for me the moment I ended my own run by curiously deleting a door, which was then explained in-universe as the door mysteriously vanishing; dooming me to be trapped. :(1 found this helpful

short yet fun! Best experienced if you have some ambient music, and you'll want to use Ctrl+x and Ctrl+V to move stuff and your character around easily since dragging and dropping is a bit sluggish
