It's 1983, only better! The game features...
- 5 single-screen levels plus a bonus stage, each with their distinct game mechanics
- incredibly tight controls (no cheap deaths) for frantic single-player arcade gameplay
- old-school screen ratio and pixel perfect graphics with a 16-color palette
- an original chiptune soundtrack by the very talented CosmicGem
- worldwide leaderboards, limited to 3-character initials, arcade style!

The only shame about Donut Dodo is that Pixel Games’ later titles are yet to match it. It’s an 80’s style arcade game that’s hard-as-balls while remaining madly addictive. Similar to Donkey Kong, it’s a simple, single-screen gauntlet to collect all the donuts and reach the eponymous Dodo before time runs out. As well as being immaculately presented and accompanied by a stellar chiptune soundtrack, Donut Dodo deftly balances a simple gameplay loop with smart level variety. Even if the goal of every level is the same, the level stages and gimmicks squeeze as much mileage as possible out of the simple running, jumping, and climbing controls. Meanwhile, small nuances in the score-chasing ensure that dedicated arcade players can spend hours perfecting runs and climbing leaderboards, long after they’ve finished their first successful run through the arcade mode. In other words, it does everything that makes Donkey Kong and Pac Man timeless classics that remain beloved to this day. It’s a classic, a masterpiece of its genre, and a game nobody with even the slightest appreciation of video games should be without.1 found this helpful
Donut Dodo feels like a late-'80s tribute to early-'80s arcade games. Like someone really fell in love with Donkey Kong and wanted to make a game like it, but took five years to actually make it. The gameplay is great, the music is catchy, the graphics are charming. Just be aware that the game commits to the bit! It's arcade difficult, and when you get a game over, you're starting from the beginning. And don't expect much in terms of extra features or modes, the main game is all you get.1 found this helpful

I love this game! Super tight and charming,
I absolutely love this game. I was late to the NES/Famicom, and enjoyed discovering the single screen Nintendo arcade conversions of the coin op cabinets like Donkey Kong Jr and Popeye, and this game captures that essential hardcore gameplay. The colours are bright but never intruding, the music is utterly brilliant and fits the game perfectly. I played this non stop on the flight to Gamescom last year (I have it on several devices). Well worth the 7 quid. I mean c'mon, that's the cost of a beer in a fancy bar! You'll get far more enjoyment from this game!
