The barbarian run animation alone is worth the positive review. Fun game and intend to play more.2 found this helpful
Out of all the Dungeon Marathon Games I've Played this one is the worst... I have nothing to compare it to.1 found this helpful
Dungeon Marathon, developed by Retro Army Limited and published by paulstephendavis, is a compact indie title that takes the familiar idea of dungeon crawling and strips it down to its barest, most urgent form. Instead of battling monsters or collecting elaborate loot, the game revolves around constant forward movement, survival, and efficiency. It’s less about conquering a dungeon and more about enduring it, turning what would normally be a methodical genre into something closer to an arcade endurance challenge. The central gameplay loop is built around navigating maze-like levels under the pressure of a steadily draining health bar. Every second matters, and standing still is rarely an option. Players must weave through corridors, avoid traps, and find the fastest route to the exit while managing limited resources. Apples scattered throughout each level serve as both health restoration and a scoring mechanic, encouraging players not just to survive but to perform well. This creates a subtle layer of optimization, where the goal shifts from simply finishing a level to mastering it through efficient routing and risk management. One of the game’s most defining choices is its compl…
I like to second monitor podcasts while playing games. This game makes that super inconvenient. Also, I went into one of the dungeons. The Floor 1 and floor 4 were exactly the same and floor 2 seemed exactly the same as floor 3. I turned the sound and music down and collecting apples is still super loud as if the in game sound volume does not apply to the apples. Don't think I want to continue this game.
Dungeon Marathon is pretty neat. I wasn’t expecting much, but its simple “run, dodge, and collect” gameplay got me into a nice rhythm, with the expressive animation on the player characters combined with the smooth controls took me on a nice ride through these classic isometric dungeons. Also, while the characters are all one-dimensional, I love the premise of how all the characters are boneheads that stumbled into this obvious trap. What really sold me on the game was the twist,
that the apples you need to stay energized and perfect-rank the levels slowly poison you, and can lead to permadeath. I didn’t notice this at first, thinking that the death meter was rising due to character death. Though one would think it would be an unpleasant revelation, it came across as a thrilling surprise, and I think that’s the best way to experience it.
It enhances both the premise and the gameplay, and it really motivated me. Despite losing my first run, the short length of the game kept the stress levels low, encouraging me to try again, then go for the higher difficulty. There are a few repeating levels, the purchasable items aren’t properly explained, and there was t…
O principal ponto forte do game seria a diversão! Recomendo muito!
